However, I don't think the turnaround time and the service were out of line. The camera wasn't brought to Lost and Found immediately because I'm sure it was closed at that point. So, they did the next best thing which was to put in a safe and wait until the next day to take care of it in the appropriate manner.

Misti, I was thinking the same thing. I think the SOP is that a lost item is put into the Resort's L&F and then is sent to Central L&F in the morning. It could be that the night manager put the camera into the safe right away and then left it there when the Resort's L&F for valuables was closed after Jiko's closed. It could be that the SOP for restaurants is that they move items from their L&F to the Resort's L&F when they open instead of when they close. It could be he just made a mistake and forgot about it. Either way, I'm just glad DisOrBust got her camera and her pictures back!

Exactly - do ANY of know exactly what their procedures are? AS I said earlier - it took a couple of days for my son's wallet to show up at central L&F. Do any of us expect that every time we lose something and they find it - they send it directly to L&F? They would be making trips all the time. different locations may have different procedures, too - just doing what makes the most sense.

Seriously - would the police waste their time with a police report on something like this? I mean articles we leave places really are not stolen - according to the legal sense of the word are they?

We once left our dirty underwear bag at a Disney Resort and were so mad that they wouldn't send them back to us! These were our special, vacation only, one of a kind super duper matching underwear that we picked out as a familiy and had so much sentimental value that I cried for weeks when I was told they had been thrown out.

Get real folks. It was a camera. It wasn't "stolen", it was left by the OP (where should the blame lie?) and just because it cost $600.00 doesn't make it any more important, IMO. :charac2:

Disney receives notices of lost/stolen goods everyday, how many are real how many are not? To expect them to drop everything to satisfy a personal curiosity (checking the restaurant) over a camera doesn't seem logical to me. An error on your part should not constitute an emergency on theirs. As the OP said, they have procedures and if you ask me they worked pretty well. Oh, btw, kudo's to the Jiko staff for their honesty. It'd be really easy for a less intended person to just take it home, but this CM didn't (whoever it was) but it's easier just to bash these hard working folks, I guess.

I think this Brenda went the extra mile. Did she receive a thank you or a litttle gift of appreciation? After all, it was a $600.00 camera.

All in all at least the OP got her camera back (so the tears and anxiety were totally unecessary). I never got my underwear back!

A flood of tears and feeling physically sick because of a lost camera ??? Wow I can only hope for you that this is the worst thing that happens in your life !!

Obiously you have never lost photos. Ours were our most sorrowful loss when our house burnt down. What a shame that someone's first post  would be something so condescending.

When I worked for Disney, cameras and eyeglasses were THE most common thing lost. This sort of thing literally happens all day long so perhaps to a CM it doesn't seem to require the attention or empathy you expected. I think overall Disney has a great Lost and Found system. They return 1000's of items every year. Give the AKL another chance--if you have great memories there, try not to let this incident tarnish them.

The great thing is that the camera was returned and everything turned out fine for you. :)

An interesting fact we learned on our last trip. Number of pairs of sunglasses lost at WDW since opening in 1971? 1.5 MILLION!!!!!

DH left his nasty hand washed socks drying on the closet rod on our trip a few weeks ago. I hope they don't call and want to send them back... :Pinkbounc

Peter Pirate ITA!! A camera is a thing that can be replaced. While sad if you lose pictures at least you have the memory. The OP doesn't seem to realize that her overreacting probably ruined the day for her children. That will stand out in their memories.

Sue, please don't drag her kids into this. That's a no-no. I'm sure her kids are not scared for life!

How about her pets? Can we drag them into this? :jumping1:

Besides, even if we shouldn't mention..You know, the...Shhhh, Children, the OP certainly ruined her own day by overeacting and then seemingly failed to feel equally grateful at finding the whole disaster moot.

johnsonet...Send me the bill. I probably won't pay it but it'll be a good reminder of the day someone actually appreciated one of my jokes!

Violetsmom - This is your first post on the Disboards, and you are going to critize someone???
Have you ever lost anything expensive in your life?
I have...and I have had the exact same feelings as the OP.
It's a feeling of panic...and disbelief that you could do something so foolish.
Get a grip - and be kind. You'll be happier for it.

I happen to be excitedly planning our first trip to AKL and I must say I'm actually pretty relieved! It sounds like the management and staff went way, way overboard. Your post did the exact oppsite of what you intended for me. I'm actually even more excited now about our upcoming trip.

I do think a little bit of clarity is warranted but I think other people have expressed that pretty well.

It's one thing to be upset about a camera-- quote another entirely to demand that the entire staff of AKL put everything in the resort on hold to open every locked door to look for it. ;)

Sorry if I came off as overly critical. That was not my intention. Yes this was my first post but I have been reading the boards for months and greatly enjoy them. Ii is my opinion that with all the sad and tragic things that can happen in ones life, the loss of a camera no matter how expensive is not that horrible. The OP was on a wonderful vacation with her family. She was also with her parents. Both my parents have been gone for a long time and I would give a million cameras to spend another vacation with them. See what I mean ?? Not trying to be mean. Just trying to make the point let's appreciate what's important in life.

Robinb I didn't say her children were scarred for life. Do you really believe parents actions do not affect their children?

I agree about the issues w the staff at AKL lately. We were there this past October and at check, the CM was clueless. Our room wasn't ready (which was fine, we were early so we could relax by the pool) but instead of giving us the card w/ the number to call to see if our room was ready and give us our room cards, he told us that we HAD to come back to the front desk to attempt to "check in" again.
??? He would not even let me pay the balance for the room! So after waiting on the long line for absolutely nothing....we had to go back and wait on the line all over again to check in. The second CM even said that she didn't know why he had us do that....

no if he had on a "earning my ears" tag, it might have explained it but he did not..............

I LOVE the AKL and hope the staff improves. For the most part, everyone is real nice....

That is how I feel everyday of my life now. I no longer sweat the "little stuff" (and yes, I think losing things = the "little stuff" in life) . I think when you go through certain tragedies in life it puts things in perspective. That being said, I completely understand being upset over the lost pictures ON the camera. Losing my father, I understand how priceless pix and/or video can be. One post mentioned something about losing ALL their precious pictures to a house fire. I can't even imagine--it would make me a crying wreck. For that poster--I'm so sorry you had to got through that.

Again, I just hope to shed a good light on a situation deemed horrible by the original poster. :)
