My DH commented that he and I have a philosophical difference about conversations.
One of us thinks it is OK to start talking while the other one is still talking and that they are listening as well as talking. It would not be considered interupting.
Obviously the other person feels that it is quite rude to interupt, They feel that the person talking should get to finish their thought before the other person says anything.(that includes trying to finish 1st person thought for them)
Do you and your DH or children have this problem?

I have this problem with my mother. I just look at her and say "Please let me finish" or "Please listen to what I am saying" ...with the emphasis on the listen, because otherwise she will say at some later time that I did not tell her something that I did tell her.

I have the problem with my DH that he does not always listen, and then he too will tell me that I did not tell him something.

My DH does this only sometimes, but he gets it from his dad that does it often to my MIL.

I just tell him (my DH) to "knock it off" and then he does ;)

I wish it were that simple.
All we do is end up getting mad at each other. The one then figures what they were saying must not be that important if it was interupted. That involves hurt feelings and no apology from interupter.

I think it's interrupting and I try not to do it. I work with a guy that does it a lot and he's almost always wrong (when trying to complete my thought/sentence).

Not many people can talk AND listen at the same time. You need to take the time and listen (both of you) to the other before you respond.

However... my friends SIL is a jabberjaw and WILL NOT SHUT UP! Which makes conversations with her nearly impossible. She doesn't interrupt BUT she never EVER SHUTS UP! Ugh!

I'll admit that I have done this from time to time. In my defence I felt so strongly about the subject or I was so excited to say something that I would interupt whomever I was speaking with. So to my DH :I'm sorry. :goodvibes

I am so guilty of this. I interupt my DH all the time. I am listening to what he is saying, but I want to say what I am thinking so I don't forget by the time he is done talking. It drives him nuts!

Someone did a study on this once, about differences between conversation for both sexes.

Apparently, when a man is talking to another man, he isn't as likely to interrupt. However, when a man and a woman are conversing, the man is more likely to interrupt and to cut off her statements, answer questions with "Mmm hmm".

Anyway, that's my psychology of women class for you. I had a test on it last semester. Not saying I believe it, just throwing it out there ;)

So it must be true then.

Women are from Mars and men are from Venus.

Oh wait... I think I have that backwards. Perhaps I wasn't listening when my gf was trying to tell me that. :rotfl2:
