Discrepancy in Room-only Rate vs QS Package

So here's a question....

I originally booked an AP discounted room only at Pop for 2 nights. Each night is $76.79 for a total of $153.58.

Then I got to thinking, that the QS plan would be good for our needs.

So I called and added that on tonight.

The QS plan for the two of us (1 adult, 1 child) should come to about $84 ($31/night for me, $10/night for DS). Add that to the rooms for $153.58 brings the total to $237.58.

The total he gave me was $255.50.

Why the difference?

Last year the same thing happened to us at Poly for the 2 nights we stayed there before moving over to the BCV. I can't remember why it happens. I did call back but can't remember what they told me. Call back and see if they can explain it.

I am dealing with the Same Problem! I have a 40% room only discount I want to add base tickets and the Deluxe DP. The price is OFF, the CM did admit that I wouldnt be getN the entire 40% off the room WOW this is sounding real shady. I am on the phone with Disney now I am going 2 get them 2 check the price without the 40% room only discount and compare it 2 the quote that I was givin with the 40%discount

YEP this was us last year. I booked those two nights at Poly in two rooms. I got the 40% off and then decided to add the CS plan to ONE room for the kids. Well when I did that...the price was not the same if you kept the room only price and just added the CSP. Now that particular package included arcade credit, some coupons for Planet Hollywood and dicounts for miniature golf and watercraft. So that bumped up the price maybe??

I could be confused, but I think it has to do with not getting 2 discounts. If you have the DDP, it is discounted food.

No just getting the dining plan is not considered a discount. Unless you are trying to get the free dining plan but that does not sound like what is happening. How about taxes? Also are you sure you are not going during a time in which the dining plan is more expensive? I don't remember in past years there being a cost difference but this year there is.

Are you sure the CM didn't lose the AP room discount when you added the QS? I'd call back and verify that my AP room discount was applied to my ressie.

The two nights we're staying are the last 2 nights of the "cheap" season... rates go up this coming Friday night for the summer season.

I called back and talked to a CM. She first tried telling me it was tax. $17? On an $80-some? That's a hefty tax rate! And then I remembered that the Dining Plan price includes the tax already and I mentioned that to her. So it wasn't that.

She then crunched the numbers (the package doesn't breakdown the cost). She then put me on hold to talk to a supervisor. When she came back on, she said her supervisor said it's because of the "extras"... the $15 voucher to Planet Hollywood, the Arcade tokens, etc. She said it's why they don't have the exact amount the plan costs... This all still doesn't sit right with me. But if it's the way it is, then we'll be sure to use those extras... I'm thinking we can share a dessert at Planet Hollywood some afternoon/evening!

I'm kind of wishing I would have left it a room only and paid OOP for our food... I asked her if I could change back without having to pay a penalty and she thought maybe, but wasn't sure. And it would be based on availability of rooms... I had already been on the phone over 20 min with her and just decided to leave it alone. I'll just be extra certain to fully maximize the use of the plan! ;)

(To the PP that mentioned something about 2 discounts... Because it's a AP discounted rate, you're able to purchase the Dining Plan at full price without having to buy tickets. Not the case if you're doing Free Dining... then you have to buy the minimum ticket that the package requires.)

The discount was $30/night off of rack rate for a total savings of $60 for the 2 nights. So it's not that... I did ask her to double check that I was getting that discount.

Let me know what you find out...

That is odd I was under the impression that all those little extras were free. Sort of an extra incentive to book a package. I certainly hope I am not paying for them I don't use them at all. Sorry you still have no answer. I did read somewhere around here that tax was actually higher at Pop since it is technically located in a different county but then again that should not have changed since you already had that booked and just added the dining.

Those extras are free.
If there is an issue my guess is it was from going to a room only to a WDTC package.
It is not just a matter of adding a dining plan on to a room only.
It would be like going from room only offer XYZ to package ABC and figuring they are the same. There may be a difference somewhere.
And packages are not broken out by price. It's a lump sum. So they would not be able to tell you what you exactly paid for this or that.
It seems something has to be different, either a different room rate, the dining season, something.
Unfortunately it is not an easy answer I don't think. But it stems from not being able to add a dining plan onto a room only res. The dining plans are from WDTC. A room only res is not WDTC.

Could it be the $15 new document fee?

Thats what I was thinking. Though I don't call it a new document fee since its based on changes to your reservation. If you modify your ressie within 2 weeks of traveling they charge you extra. Actually even if you make ressies for a package within 2 weeks its more than if you made it a month in advance.

I just checked on Disney website. 6 night package beginning on 6/17/10 is 2141.68 and for a 6 night package beginning on 6/18/2010 is 2126.68 so they do charge more if its within 2 weeks or less of travel date.
