Discovery Island

Can you dock at the old Discovery Island (where the bird sanctuary used to be before AK opened) with the water mice and pontoon boats you can rent at GL, Poly, etc.?

I'm not sure of the answer to this, but I would think not. Otherwise they would have all sort of people checking out the island & that could be a problem. I really liked Discovery Island & wish they would bring it back! AK is nice, but is no substitute for DI. My DS never got to see DI as it was already closed by the time we took him to WDW. Seeing the animals up close was really alot of fun & they island had its own ambience. JMO Kathy

We rented a mouse boat at Poly, we were not able to. At least I don't think we were allowed to.

Every time we have rented watercraft at WDW, we have always been told that we are not to dock anywhere, and we are to return our watercraft back to the marina from which we rented them from – no exceptions.

Discovery Island was a great place, but it has been closed for years now. No one is allowed to dock there and if they attempted to do so, they would surely be caught by the Shore Patrol boats that patrol Bay Lake. The island is off-limits to everyone but specific WDW Cast Members.

We got very close to it on a family fishing trip. Ds asked the cm about it and cm said no, you wouldn't want to go there now? Hmm what did cm mean by that?
