Discovery Cove Video

Hi everyone
Friend's of our's have just came back from Discovery Cove, and when they watched there video they realised there was no sound on it. is this normal or do you think it is faulty.

Can't remember off the top of my head so I will check, one thing I do know is that it was a complete waste of money. We have only watched it once.

I think it had music and then when you have your swim you can hear what is going on. I will check it tomorrow for you as martin is watching a film!!!!!

I was gutted when we got home, fast forwarded most of it and the dolphin swim was on for like 2 minutes it seemed and it was hardly on us. We only bought the 1 pic to as we thought it would make up for it.

VERY DISSAPOINTED

I will double check in the morning for you if that is OK.

If it is a fault, we're hoping to take it back over with us in October and either exchange it or get a refund for them, although i don't hold out much hope.

It is worth a try, i suppose they think no one will ever bring it back if there is a problem. You also can not try them out in the hotel rooms either which is annoying.

When you go in Oct (lucky you) try and get to Cyber Space Mountain (if you have not already been) in Disney Quest, the video you buy there is wicked so funny and we watch ours loads. (i know that is off the whold DC thing sorry just wanted to share that with you that they are not all a waste of money).

Our DC Video is a complete waste of money aswell. I think it was $60.00 ?? When you watch it, it is like a 20 minute Discovery Cove advert, then a few seconds of us with the dolphin. You would think with the money DC makes on them videos, they would hire professional cameramen/women. I guess some of them turn out OK, but on our video the sound is appalling and the cameraman must have been breakdancing whilst videoing !

I think the sales pitch after the dolphin swim is a bit OTT aswell. Other than that, DC is great in every other aspect.

BTW Did DC give your freind the PAL (UK) video or the NTSC (US) version ?

I was going to ask the same question as Paul - it does not sound as if this is a PAL version - if their video does not accept the NTSC type videos, then that may be why there's a problem.
(I remember playing back a PAL on an NTSC video on our relatives video in Florida, and there was no sound on that either)

Just started to watch our video and got so cross at how much we got ripped off, it was crap (excuse my French). I forgot it was $60 which kind of makes it worse.

Mine has a orange PAL sticker on the front so make sure they check that but there is sound all the way through, loads of talking and music about the park.

Our video clip came on and you could hear everyone and see everyone (i mean everyone that had the swim at the same time), not one video per group. I fast forwareded most of it as i was bored and it seemed to take ages to get to us on the swim.

As you can see i was not impressed.

Why didn't you film your experience yourself?
You did take a camcorder?
I took nearly 9 hrs of digital video of our holiday and its great to watch back- especially the dolphin swim! The official video sounds like a huge rip off. (oops sorry in your case no sound)

We have booked to swim with the dolphins when we go in October, you've made me think twice now about buying the video, we do have someone in our party though who won't be swimming with the dolphins so is it possible for him to get it on a camcorder for us or do they stop you getting close :confused: also how much are their photos they take and is it worth the money ??

Your feedback would be appreciated

I am pretty sure people were doing the have friends film there swim. There was just the 2 of us so we could not which was a shame but I would definatley opt for that.

With regards to the photos I can not remember how much they are but you can choose the ones you want and pay at the end so at least you are not committed.

You also get a free pic when you enter which is nice (i had my eyes shut, gutted)

we've solved the problem with the video, although we're not sure what it was. we've got sound now but all there is is background noise, you don't here the dolphin interacting or our friend talking to it. So when we swim with them in October we will be taking our own video, surely it must be better than their's.

We bought a copy of the video of our dophin swim last October.We were literally on it for less than a minute and as has been said before,not just our group but every group from than swim time.The camera person was filming two groups at once ,and swept violently betwen the two groups.

I e-mailed DC to complain about my video when we returned,and was refunded my money immediately.


If eveyone disapointed with their video demanded a refund it might encourage DC to employ more people to video the swims and to give peole the personalised video they would like:mad:

I too felt that this was the only 'rip-off' element of the day and told them this in my e-mail!
 
Glad to hear you got a refund. I agree that the more people who complain if they are dissatisfied will encourage Discovery Cove to get its act together. We were lucky with our video, as we were being filmed for all the key moments of our dolphin encounter. However, I can easily see that other people could miss much of their swim. I didn't find that the video was a rip-off, but it was very amateurish compared to the rest of the set-up at Discovery Cove.

I did a lot of videoing at DC (included my BIL filming us with the dolphins) so having the 30 minutes of 'general' footage about DC at the beginning of the video we bought is actually quite useful. One day I will edit all the tapes together, using my footage at the DC footage to make a complete record of our day.

There seems to be a bit of variation on the length of video of individuals dolphin encounters. Is it because of the size of the group?

We had 5 of us in a group of 7 and we had about 20mins (from memory haven't watch it lately) of video of us after the D.C. bit.

We also had my Dad video-ing from the beach so I edited both videos together and got good coverage of the whole thing.

The D.C. video is not the best value in the world by a long way but I'm glad we had it. I would have regreted not getting it.

After all the cost of going over to Florida and everything else the D.C. video didn't make much impression on the Credit Card!
