I think for a surprise birthday present my husband is going to take my stepdaughter for the swimming with dolphin experience? The problem is she lives in VA and we don't get her all the time and her birthday is in November. I'm guessing the water is too chilly then if she does come down? If she's not here for her birthday she might be after Christmas some time but i'm not sure. Spring break she would be here for sure. So do the crowds at disney follow there? Or is it okay?

Also, am I reading correctly that any gear you might need they will have? Or do you have to buy stuff?

My birthday is mid November and the last two years I spent it at Discovery Cove. Both days we had beautifully warm weather and the water is kept at constant temperatures year round.
Discovery Cove will provide everything that you need apart from swim wear. They even provide sunscreen.

Just be aware that the "constant" water temp that they keep it at it a little chilly! It was a wonderful experience, but yes the snorkeling area and dolphin areas are kept fairly cold, but the lazy river (since it has no marine life in it) is kept warmer, so we kept hoping in there for a float around the park to warm up. But during the Dolphin experience I didn't notice it much because it is short and you are focused on the trainers and the dolphins.

Have fun, I am sure it will be a wonderful surprise! What a wonderful memory that will be!

My family has gone twice, one time in April and the other time in May. When we went in April it was vacation time for many. BUT Discovery Cove only allows a certain amount of people in per day....I think under 1 thousand. That may seem like a lot of people, but you will never feel over crowded like you would @ Disney. Yes, Discovery Cove does provide everything you will need for the day. Food, towels, sunscreen., etc. My family had a great time the 2 times we went, I can't say enought about the experience. WONDERFUL!!!
