Discovery Cove Questions

1) Do you wear your swim suits all day at DC? I didn't know if we would do all of the water activities for example in the morning, shower, then eat lunch and do all of the "on foot" activities.

2) What time would you recommend arriving? We are going two weeks from tomorrow. I have scheduled Wheels to Wings to pick us up from WL at 8:15 to arrive at DC around 8:45. Is that early enough, or should we get picked up earlier?

3) I read that you cannot wear jewelry into the dolphin interaction. Will I need to take off my wedding ring? What about my 3rd earring that is a stud that I never take out?

4) Do you recommend pool shoes?

They give you a wetsuit to wear. You can take it off and such, but most people just walk around in that all the time. Even during lunch and such. It's outdoor eating and the chairs allow water to drip on the floor. It's quite comfortable.

The only thing that is dry is the aviary.

I would recommend going as early as it is going to open. I love doing the fish part when no one is there. It never feels crowded at DC, but if you want to claim a nice beach chair - be the first one on the beach!

They make you take off ALL your jewelery. I even took out my earrings that I just got pierced. They give you a locker and a key so you don't have to worry about it getting stolen. Still, I would leave it at the hotel if you don't feel comfortable.

Taking out your jewels are more of a protective measure for you as well as the animals. In case you get a fluke in your ear you dont want the earring smashing into your head.

4) Do you recommend pool shoes?
I do recommend shoes, only because I hate being barefoot. There is sand and pavement and tile etc. Also, the aviary you probably wouldnt want the animals to peck at your toes.

As far as jewelery is concerned, you are allowed to have on a waterproof watch and your wedding band for the dolphin swim. Everything else has to be stored in the locker.

I would recommend some shoes that can go in the water (crocs, aqua sox, etc). The sand gets really hot and some of the water areas have some rough bits on the bottom that are uncomfortable on bare feet. You will be asked to take the shoes off before you go into the dolphin lagoon.

We went to Discovery Cove last week and loved it. You can pick a wet suit or a vest. Lots of adults had on the vest. The kids loved the wet suit. We got there around 9 AM and were signed up for the 1PM dolphin swim, so if you want an early dolphin swim, you need to get there early. The time was ok; we just did other things before the dolphin swim. The coral reef for snorkling is great. There are huge sting rays(with the barbs removed) and so many beautiful fish. Be sure to look inside the shipwreck. There are barracuda and sharks in there with a glass between you and them, but it's still sorta scary. The aviary was great too. The birds come up and land on you! I had 2 land on my head. That's the only dry thing. Most people just had on their swimsuits and vests or wetsuits in there. You can swim to the aviary or walk there. The dolphin interaction is incredible. They are such sweet, smart animals! The whole park is a must do!! Oh, and the food is so good. I had salmon and grilled vegetables for lunch--not your usual theme park food.

Ha... I just had to look twice. I'm thinking I'd have to have pasta and salad after having been swimming with my potential lunch! Just kidding... really. It just struck me as amusing.


On a side note, has anyone gone in, oh, November ish? How super cold is it? I wouldn't want to buy expensive tickets and have it too cold to swim. Are the wet suits warm? Thanks!

I was there two weeks ago and the lunch was great. It is freshly prepared and they have an assortment of salads, burgers, chicken, salmon, vegetables and kids items including chicken fingers, hot dogs and fires. There are also a few cakes for desert! The food at Discovery Cove is really good, it was one of my favorite parts of the day

I hope so as we have reservations for early December. I've been to DC twice before but in March timeframe. I'm hoping for a warm December this year.

I can't help with December, but we have been in mid November the last two years and it was lovely and warm.

We're thinking of going in early March. We don't want to be miserably cold all day though. Does anyone who lives in Florida or has been in March think that early March will be too cold? Is the water warm?

We haven't been yet but i've been told they have sizes up to 18 XL so yes they should have one to fit you. We are booked for June 8th and have several larger sized people in our party so I'm hoping that info was correct.
