I know the rules say no jewelry except watches & wedding bands. What about engagement ring? Also, if they won't allow that, where can I safely keep it? We are coming from out of state & I'm not sure I want to leave that in the hotel room.

We were allowed to keep our rings on when we swam in both 2012 and 2014. They did not differentiate between wedding or engagement rings.

Oh good! Then I won't worry about it.

What about swim shoes? Are there restrictions on what kind of water shoes you can wear? My DH has rugged speedo type swim shoes with thick rubber soles. Would that be a problem? He would only wear them if truly needed. Not sure where he would need them though.

I left my engagement and infinity rings on, and they were on the same finger as my wedding band. No one said anything. I did put my expensive watch, earrings and necklace in our locker. I felt it was safe, and everything was still there, where I put it, when I opened the locker to leave. So, I would not be worried about putting jewelry in your locker. I would not leave it in your hotel room. If you don't want to take it with you to DC, then ask your hotel's concierge to put your items in the hotel's safe.

Have a great time, we really enjoyed our times at DC.

I saw all different water shoes. All seemed to be ok. So I think he'd be ok with them. I did not see anyone wearing them when swimming with the dolphins though.

I wore my wedding and engagement ring. No problem...but no earrings or bobby pins in the hair! (DD and I had to go back to the lockers to redo hair and remove earrings!) They are mainly concerned that the dolphins will eat anything that might come off. Necklaces/ID tags have to be tucked into your vest or wetsuit.
