Hi Everyone,

Although I've introduced myself in the sticky introductions thread at the top, I had a question there which "TuckandStuiesMom" kindly suggested would be the good subject of a new thread here.

I'm in a relationship with another woman which started only last year. We are very committed to each other, real soul mates, best friends and understand each other totally. What maybe a little unusual is the fact we are both in our forties and didn't realise our "orientation" until we met each other. How common is it to discover this so late in life? Has it hit any of you late like this? I'm just curious.

Thanks for listening :)

Welcome and you bet!

Back in my lesbian feminist radical days (30 years ago!!!) your situation was QUITE common... lots of stories which could be told.

Hi again Friendly --

My 2 cents worth -- LOVE is GREAT whenever, however, and with whomever that you find it and commit to it. :goodvibes :grouphug: :goodvibes

Glad you found your soulmate!

Some things are worth waiting for! :grouphug:

Welcome to the community!!

late is often better, one had made one's mistakes and now can enjoy the fruits of knowledge!

I figured it all out when I was 30, my hunny (tiggr33) around the same age.

My sister didn't realize she was a lesbian until she was in her mid-40's; she had been married, had 2 kids, raised them, then divorced her husband, dated a few other men, and then met an old school friend of hers that was out and realized that she had always had some feelings for her. Funny thing is, my other sisters and I all thought that both my sister and her friend were lesbians from the time they were in high school, but it took them awhile to realize it themselves. My sister didn't wind up hooking up with her friend, but has been with her current partner for over 10 years...of course, she's never gonna catch up with me, I've been with my partner for 30 years and counting! (He was approaching 30 when he realized he was gay, BTW.)

DW and I have very good friends who discovered in their early 50s and are now the happiest couple we know. Welcome to the boards!

I've always considered myself to be Bi-I've loved both men and women..but I happened to fall madly in love with a man. In my life I always saw the person first, the gender second. I guess that only works if you're attracted to both sexes.

But bottom line is...love will surprise you. Always welcome it:grouphug:

I'm so glad I'm not unique!! It's nice to be unique but not alone ... LOL. I guess you all know what I must mean :goodvibes This is definitely a great place to hang out with my cup of coffee when I'm not doing the household chores! :) Thanks for all your stories.
