Discover the Magic Tour

During this three-hour tour, guests follow musical clues on a scavenger hunt to solve mysteries, hunt for hidden treasure, learn how to outsmart Disney villains and save the day by helping out everyone's pal, Mickey Mouse. The "Discover the Magic" tour breaks the mold of conventional tours where guests follow a guide who shares information. With this new experience, kids and their parents are put right in the action, with many of the activities taking place on Tom Sawyer Island. The tour includes lunch in Rancho del Zocolo in Frontierland and quick visits with a couple of Disney characters along the way.

I am thinking of taking my 5 1/2 yr old while dad and the 2 1/2 year old are napping one afternoon...

Any thoughts or ???

We did this two weeks ago and although the kids had fun, my husband and I weren't too impressed. The character interaction was much more limited than I expected, two of the characters we were supposed to see weren't even there. Plus the kids didn't get to really interact with them, the tour guides did most of the talking. Our group had a lot of adults, so maybe that made the difference too, since it really is geared towards the kids. Overall I think my expectations were too high. My kids had a great time, they got to see some characters, dress/act like a cowboy and pirate and have a special Disneyland experience only few get to experience.

I don't think it will work out for afternoon nap time though since the tour runs 10:30am-1:30pm, with lunch at Rancho del Z.... in the middle

Here is a link to a response with reviews I got a couple months ago when I was asking the same question.

Thank you so much! That is very helpful.. I especially appreciate you taking time to give me the links to the articles! I think we might just have to try this tour.

Can you tell me where the tour starts and ends, as well as how far in advance you can book it?

You can book 30 days in advance. The tour started near City Hall. There is a guided tour building right next door where you check in. In our tour we visted most of Disneyland except Tomorrowland. We ended up in Mickey's house. It is a very full 3 hours, with maybe 20 minutes for lunch.

If you have a Disney visa or an AP you get a discount, so don't forget to mention it if you have either one!

We did this tour when it first started, on a hot summer day in July! There was only one other family with us. We all loved it! My 3 kids do get into it, though! I don't want to ruin the tour for you by telling you about the characters, etc...., but we found most of them to be very interactive. There are a couple that you just see quickly and get a picture, though. My kids interacted with the characters, so I think that gets the characters a little more into it, too. The children in the other family we were with were a bit more shy, but warmed up and got into it with our kids, too. We ended up making friends and spending the rest of the day with them. We've also met up with them at DL since then. The tour is like a game-a scavenger or treasure hunt, just like it describes-very fun and cute! The lunch is also nice. I think it will be what you make it! Have fun and let us know what you think if you do it! :)
