Hi, I'm having to fight with my DH with recent back injury about using a wheelchair on our upcoming Sept trip to WDW. Since we are also taking the 4 day cruise, I was interested in whether it is feasible to use a wheelchair on the Discover Atlantis shore excursion. He doesn't NEED a w/c but walking with the injury makes him tired and cranky (which is the last thing I want to deal with on my vacation)
The guide says there is a moderate amount of walking involved and I don't want to tire him out or injure his back further. I'd rather pass on the excursion. What do you think? Has anyone in a w/c done this excursion?

Thanks for your help,
Cheryl

Moderate amount of walking? More like a HUGE amount of walking. My DW and I are in reasonably good shape and we were beat by the end of walking the Dig. From what I remember and looking at the maps, I would say it is wheelchair accessible. The only thing about using the official Disney excursion is they use an overcrowded boat to shuttle between the Wonder and Atlantis. My recommendation would be to do it yourselves. It's not hard, you just go the taxi stand at the end of the dock, where for $5 they'll take you to Atlantis, you go to the middle of the casino where a kiosk with a blue globe over it has the wristbands for $25 each to allow you to tour the Dig and the rest of the resort, short of using the water amenities. The advantage beyond the hassle of getting on/off the shuttle boats, is you'll be able to tour the dig at your own pace, instead of the tour's.

Thanks Mark! I appreciate the info.
