Is it me, or does any one else feel shorted?

I have been reading about some great discounts on resorts stays. I am a member of DVC and have been for 5 years. I just recently started reading these boards and have found the great discounts if you pay for a resse. However, we still use the same amount of points.
Can anyone justify this to me?

Thanks

I haven't looked at the member site lately but there have always been discounts for some of the restaurants, which change periodically. I know last December, I enjoyed a 20% (I think) discount at the Swan for their brefex buffett. There's been one for parasailing at the Contemporary and others but you need to check the site.

All DVC resorts offer point discounts. At OKW/BWV/VWL it "costs" fewer points to stay in Sep and Jan than it does in July or Christmas week. This is pretty clearly defined in the point charts for DVC. It also costs fewer points from SUn-Thurs than it does on weekends.

DVC also offers a 25% discount on cash ressies at DVC resorts (subject to availability).

I guess it all depends on how you want to define "discount". I feel like I've gotten a great "discount" every time I use my points! :)

If I read between the lines correctly, you're having second thoughts about owning DVC because you could stay at other Disney resorts cheaper than owning at DVC. While this may or may not be true, for us it wouldn't be worth it. If you truly feel that way, seems like a perfect time to get out and take advantage of all of those discounts. Otherwise we're all glad to have you in the family. Good luck.

ooops! What did I think I read with this thread. If you want to stay at deluxe resorts, I think DVC is a great deal. Those "terrific" discounts could (and will) quickly disappear when the economy turns up.

We have vacationed at WDW at least once each year since 1987. Over those years I have received exactly 1 discount postcard and I've been able to get AP/MKC rates at resorts that fit with my vacation weeks 4 times. Now that I have DVC I don't have to worry about what this next trip will cost and how to maybe get a discount. We now stay in "deluxe" accommodations for a very reasonable price. This year we are staying at the Poly for 3 nights (I just love the Poly, I'd pay any price for a DVC resort there!) and we got a discount rate of $179 nightly. But we're also staying at OKW and VWL for 12 nights. I know this sounds crazy but it feels like we're staying there for free because we don't have to pay the huge chunk for the rooms when we go. I too feel like DVC is the best discount I've ever gotten.
