I was reading on the Operations board about TIW and the APs

What kind of food/dining discount do you get by just being a DVC member?


Is it a better deal than using a DDP? I'm guessing you probably don't get the discount in every restaurant. I've already booked a cash trip for Dec and I'm trying to see where I can trim some costs if I pass ROFR. I have the delux ddp and a 7 day park hopper.

I'm thinking of getting a couple APs too...we may be doing 2 trips next year. 500 points coming in contract.

DVC discounts are usually 10%, and are often for lunch only on weekdays. Not all restaurants offer a DVC discount. A couple of restaurants may offer 20% to 30% seasonally, usually these are not Disney owned restaurants.

DVCers do get adiscount at some of the Swan/Dolphin restaurants that do not honor any other discounts.

We find the TiW card to be a great value. It offers 20% discount at most table service restaurants and at the food courts at the value resorts. It also is applicable to all alcoholic drinks at restaurants and bars.

Once you're spent $375 on food, you have repaid your investment of $75.

For our family of five, and none of us drink, we still hit $375 after three table service dinners.

We prefer the TIW over the DDP. It is much more flexible. We do not generally order dessert. We occasionally order an appy and prefer wine or beer to pop or coffee. We also like some of the 2TS restaurants but find 2TS credits high for the relative value.

As the AP gives you 10% off at most of the same restaurants, the break even on food only is $750 ($75/(20%-10%)). We find with food and beverages combined it pays itself off in one trip.

A tip of 18% is added when you use the TIW

We used to get DDP , but have found that TIW is much more to our liking. We don't have to stress about using our ddp credits, and we never were able to use all of our snack credits. Plus, I can justify ordering a Margarita at dinner now!

DVC discounts are free (vs. $75), but you never know exactly what they are. Hard to plan dining resies 6 mos. out when the discounts aren't known until arrival or shortly before.

Haven't tried TIW because we've not had an AP - don't live quite close enough to justify it. With the escalating cost of the no expiration option, we're getting close though.
