I recently purchased DVC and my girlfriend and I are planning a trip in a couple weeks and decided that APs would be the best way to go. However, talking with member services today they indicated that I can only get APs for family members and since I am the only name on the title. My girlfriend and I have been living together for a few years but we are not married yet. Is there a way I can get her a ticket if we can get Disney to recognize us as domestic partners? Or is there another way I can get tickets since we share an address but not a last name...or are we SOL on getting a discount on the ticket for her? Any info/tips would be great!

You can buy an AP for your girlfriend if the address on her official government ID is the same as yours. It doesn't matter if the last name is the same.

Ok thanks, that what the CM said but then said she double checked and it would only apply if she was an immediate family member...

It used to be the website listed who was considered "immediate family member" but I don't see that anymore. Now that gay marriage is legal in all 50 states, does that eliminate the term "domestic partner"?

Edit - I did a google search and here was an old definition that was posted in 2012 on a discussion board:

Who is defined as "immediate family"?
"Immediate family" is defined by Walt Disney World Resort for discount purposes as noted below: Spouse/Registered Domestic Partner, Parent/Step Parent, Mother-In-Law/Father-In-Law, Child/Step Child, Brother/Stepbrother, Sister/Stepsister, Brother-In-Law/Sister-In-Law, Grandparent, and Grandchild.

I don't think your girlfriend would qualify as "registered domestic partner" unless you have legally taken that step.

DH and I have different last names, and while we are married, no one has ever requested to see a marriage certificate. I'm the Associate, not on the deed.

She's at your address, she's your significant other. It's fine. You could tell them she's your wife and they aren't going to question it. Plenty of people don't change their names at marriage, just like DH and I didn't change our names.

Technically I believe they have to be related in some way by blood or marriage and have an address that's the same as the official address of a member.

Unmarried couples living at the same address would also qualify. Before the recent SCOTUS rulings, this allowed same-sex couples to get the same benefits as married couples.

That's not really different than I posted but here's the wording from the digital download info.

Become a Walt Disney World Passholder – Members and their immediate families residing in the same household are eligible to receive discounts on select Walt Disney World Annual Passes!

That's good to hear, that's kind of what we were asking one another, are they going to insist on a marriage certificate or something.

Several states still have "common law marriage" statutes on the books. Most simply require you to live together and public ally present yourselves as married. Pretending to be married could come back to bite you. My advice; don't lie.

There aren't that many that still do but for those that do and if you meet the requirements of each state, you are legally married in every sense as I understand it. Many of those with such statutes require a date in the past (1991-2003) depending on the state.

They have literally never asked any question about our status and we have different last names. That is what I am saying.

Yea thats what I got from your comment, seems like it shouldnt be an issue, no need to lie or fabricate a story.

You won't have any issues. I bought DVC before I even met DH - he's not listed on the deed (or as an associate member). We have two different last names. We get APs all the time, no question asked. As long as you have your membership card and your driver's licenses have the same address, it's fine.

Thanks for getting that. :) Sometimes I use too many words and it comes out differently than I mean it.
Here's the thing, if one doesn't technically qualify but words things in such a way to get the discount by omission, then it is lying. That's different than technically qualifying but having different last names.

I think you can purchase right on line and the shipping is free. You just pick who the ticket is for from your friends and family list. Like booking a fast pass. Just add them in if not already.
