How does one go about getting a discount code...I've had to rely on AAA to get any decent room/package rate. :confused3

I want to start by saying that your version of decent and Disney's version of decent may not be the same! Keep an open mind regarding pricing, and read on for some tips on how to score a deal!

Well, the SHORT answer is to check out the Special Offers section of the Walt Disney World Website and hope that the date you want to go is included.

The LONG answer? There are LOTS of ways to up your odds of getting a PIN Code - a special discount code that is usually emailed or snail mailed and is only good for your family. Some of the ways?
1 - Register at Disney's website (register multiple emails or people to up the odds)
2 - Request a Disney Planning DVD
3 - Request a Disney Vacation Club DVD
4 - Request Cruise info (DVD?)
5 - Request Disney Wedding info
6 - 'Haunt' the website (go to the Make a Reservation screen -after logging in- so tht the computers see you are looking for a trip

Best answer I can give you? Keep an eye on MouseSavers, Dis and the Disney Website for upcoming deals. I've gotten all my deals thanks to being on Dis!

Anyone else out there have some great ideas?

I did this just before the 2012 pricing came out- We are planning a trip in February, but I plugged in dates for Sept. just to get an idea of pricing. Within 48 hours I had gotten a pin for those Sept. dates. Felt like I was being watched. :rolleyes1

Disney puts out promos during certain times of the year. Generally, the better ones are during Disney Value season. For busy times of the year, when they don't have a problem filling rooms, the discounts are less.

Mousesavers.com is a good site to monitor, and they have a chart of historical discounts, going back several years, to give you an idea of when discounts were released, and what type. In their search box, just put in Historical discounts, and you should find it.

Also monitor the Disney web site Special Offers link.

Or use a WDW specialized TA, who knows when WDW puts out discounts the moment they're out. There are many online, I've used one, and they're very good. Dreams Unlimited is one such agency. Mouse Fan, Instant Impressions, Ears to You, are some others. They charge nothing for their service, and know everything about booking WDW vacays.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate all the tips! I'm going to print them out to keep handy for a future trip to Mickey's house! :goodvibes
