Many in this thread mention that a pet peeve is people not reading the prior posts in the thread. At this other site that's the 15/15 rule. You need to read 15 pages of a thread, (some of their threads have 60 pages for one topic). They set up this rule because they feel everyone's time is valuable, and no one is more important than the others. Of course, people still can skim, and some probably don't read it, but they do give warnings to people who ask a question that has been answered 52 times prior to their post. Or announce, "I haven't read the other posts but..." Actually, they will go as far to delete such a post.

Also mentioned here is the multiple topics on the same thing. TPTB at the other site insist that you search all topics in the drop down window or by using the "Show All Topics" link. Then if there is no topic, you can start a new one. It's a totally different set up there, so it's not as overwhelming as I'm making it sound.

These things contradict each other, though. Sometimes someone wants advice on a topic and there might be a thread on that topic out there. They don't have time to wade through 15 pages of that thread to see if their answer is there, but they can't start another thread because the first thread is already there.

It seems a good idea in theory, but there are problems.

My pet peeve....someone who uses a new name and posts something that barely borders on psychotic. Namely a rant about what the moderators are doing...and using barely disguised expletives.

Really....have the courage to use your everyday screen name...what cowards!

This isn't me and I haven't done this. But, there are reasons why someone would do this. If they used their real screen name then they would not be around anymore. And yes, maybe someone who uses expletives deserves that, but others have suffered the same fate without any bad language.

I really hate the posters who kick other posters when they're down by being oblivious. This usually takes place on the Community Board. One person will open their heart up and another comes on with no specific advice, but to make themselves feel better. It usually goes something like this. OP: "I think my DH is cheating on me." Snarker: "Thank goodness this isn't my problem! I have a wonderful 20 year marriage, with 4 wonderful children..." This drives me crazy! If you have something helpful to add, that's great. If you don't, just keep your perfect lives to yourselves and move on people! :flower:

I know what you mean!

Along with that is when people say, like it's no big deal at all, "divorce him/her." Short of abuse, I'd never advise someone I know to go through something so debilitating and heartbreaking when I don't know the whole story.

Well, since this thread is up to 7 pages, I'm not going to read all of the replies before I respond.

I'm bad. I apologize.

You should be ashamed of yourself!!! :earseek: :rotfl:

Actually, I'm pleased to see that so many of us share the same pet peeves, although I may have picked up a few new ones, now that I've become aware of them! :badpc: :flower:

when the Mods lock a thread because one person say something offensive. I've been involved in a few great posts that had this happen. I've suggested to the mods that instead of locking a thread why not delete the offensive post and suspend the offenders account for 48 hours. Nope still lock a thread because of one knucklehead :confused3

Tigger&Belle....it wasn't really juicy...cause ! and * and # are just the signs of lack of imagination! And it was about the strictness of moderators....

If you're that mad about something...just go ahead and get banned (thinking about doing that on another message board)....

My pet peeve is myself being scared to make a statement, I fear it would be taken the wrong way. Even worse laughed at or made fun of by others. Due to this I do not post much.
Most DIS people are not unkind, but it only takes one to start me just observing again.

I love the DIS because I love Disney. This is why I come here to read about my favorite topic.

sometimes when I go to start a new thread, I get a message that says something along the lines of "That is identical to a thread you started with in the last five minutes" and it kicks me out.

And it's not something I had tried to post before. :confused3

I think it's just the way I'm explaining it, it really works well for this other site.

This is a very topic oriented site so it's not as time consuming as it sounds. For example, if a television show airs, you post about the show in the specific thread made for that episode. If it's one week later, and you just caught the episode, you have to still post in the thread devoted to that particular episode, even if it's not on the first page of topics. The system is set up to easily scan the topics and bump it up to add your thoughts.

So using that example, I come in a week later to post about this particular episode. I find the topic, and see there is already 34 pages of posts! So the next rule is the 15/15: that I would have to read the last 15 pages at least before adding my thoughts.

Of course, skimming can be involved. But this is where the mods get strict. Sometimes it's easy to tell that someone didn't read at least 15 pages of the thread because they will write things like, "Am I the only one that thinks....", meanwhile 20 other posters wrote about it, too. Or they'll write, "Who is that actress, she's so familiar", but eight people have already answered this in their posts. So these type things get deleted or the person gets warned.

It really does work because of the nature of the board. And the site keeps growing in its popularity. But like I said, it's not for everybody.

I know the site you're talking about. I heard about it once and took a look and was overwhelmed. :rotfl: I guess once you get used to it and understand how it works the rules work and make sense.

Ok, I havent read each and every reply to this post. But,my biggest pet peeve is the exchanges. I love the exchanges, and me and my kids have done alot of them. My biggest pet peeve is the people who dont respect the send by date. I know we are all busy, we all have lifes, but if you are so darn busy why bother doing it at all? To me unless there is an emergency, then people should be more considerate of the rules to these exchanges, expecially when they give 3 weeks to send it.

post 'n' runs.

ppl that post something rediculous in a thread, and they dont stick around to see what others say

Well that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever read!!! Now let's see if you come back to reply... ;) :rotfl: :rotfl:

But you're right, that drives me crazy, too. :teeth:

I haven't seen this one...when someone refers to the OP instead of the person or their name. It's as if the person isn't around and you're talking behind their back. I know technically there's no difference, but it seems more considerate when we take the time to use their name.

:rotfl2: I just did it about myself in another thread.

I do that sometimes for a couple reasons. Either I don't remember the name of the original poster (but of course it's not hard to look on page one, so that's not a real great reason) or it's not obvious from what I am posting that I am referring to the original poster. IE, I can say that I agree with "Mary" on a part of the post, but then sometimes people think, "who's Mary?". Sometimes just referring to her as the OP makes it clear to everyone who I'm referring to without everyone involved having to think too hard about who everyone is. Not sure if this makes any sense. :teeth:
