DISboard assumptions that make you go hmmm...

I find that a lot of people assume that every time someone asks a question about Disney that they are trying to get around some kind of rule.... Sometimes a question is being asked because people want to know the answer. No one needs to be jumped on because they are asking about parking (just an example)

The assumption that every post is aimed at every person.

It makes sense to me that if I see a thread title about working muslem moms in lesbian relationships that I might not have a whole lot to contribute to the thread. I can read it out of interest, I can even chip in nicely, but why would I want to get offended by it or try to make my comments "count" in a thread that has nothing to do with me?

(In other words, why open Christmas threads if you are offended by Christmas? It's okay to let some threads just pass by that don't interest you!)

Yep, I agree people are quick to put in their two sense when they really have no business doing so. Oh and just to let you know since I was the one who brought up the Christmas thing, what I was referring to didn't happen on a Christmas thread.....it was a random thread and how that time of year people just assumed EVERYBODY was celebrating Christmas when like I said not all of us do and not all of us are Jewish who choose not to participate either!! :thumbsup2

That the board should cater and be focused on the east coast crowd, that WDW is a superior set of parks to DL resort etc.

I assume the majority of the posters here are female - so I guess I wouldn't be assuming it's only men that hold certain professions, titles, or accomplishments..

I also have a bad habit of not paying close attention to posters user names when responding to a thread.. I find myself correctly identifying who the poster is more by what they say - or how they say it - than the fact that I have looked at their user name..

Odd..

When people assume you need a public service announcement. I've seen more of those than I care to. So let's say I asked about arm floats being allowed in the pools. Someone will assume that I'm not going to watch my child, tell me how dangerous they are, and all about the risks of drowning. If you are apologizing for making the PSA, maybe let it go.

You can find them in the frozen food section of Super Walmart or as some say Super Root of All Evil

I'm sorry, but those excuses of pierogies that you can get down South are nowhere near what the real stuff tastes like. Maybe I'm spoiled by my NY ways, but I've had "pierogies" when I went to South Carolina to visit family friends, and they were just so bad. Next time we went down, we bought them lots of packages of pierogies, they were thrilled.

The funny thing with that (IMO) is that when I had my grandson's picture with him eating the Kitchen Sink, people assumed I was a female. Once his picture disappeared, most thought I was a male.

So, I guess the assumption is that if you have cute kids pictures you are a female, if not, you are a male LOL.
Doris (DMRick)

Plus screennames. Some you just know are male and some you think are male but aren't. DMRick, for example. I thought that was a male but is a female. I had people think I was a male when I first came here. Some names I can't tell so I assume and depending on writing style or use of DH/DW etc., I usually assume female because there are more females than males here.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Or that you feel left out if you don't have one. I got rid of my tags a few months ago.

:confused3:confused3
We can get grits here.

Yes, but that's only because you live in BROOKLYN, which is heaven on earth (at least according to one of my patients ;)).

I couldn't get grits in State College, PA.

Has that happened to you?

I'm a physician, and most of the physicians I know of posting here are female. Between those two things, I tend to assume physician posters are female.

Perhaps its the "nutty professor" part of your name that leads to that assumption. Makes me think of the movie.

I make assumptions based on whether or not the screen name sounds feminine or masculine. RachelEllen would never be a guy. Nutty Professor? I think of the Disney movie and he was a guy.

I think one of the worst assumptions here is that everyone is fairly well to do and can afford to stay at moderate or deluxe resorts. Often people here are lead to believe you do not get the true "Disney Experience" unless you stay in the most expensive resort or eat at the signature restaurants.

Lots of people just cannot afford that kinda trip because they work in lower paying jobs and may only get to visit WDW once in their lifetimes and may not even be able to afford the value resorts.

If the OP is talking about themselves, you don't list any credentials, but your screen-name is a play on the name of a male character in a Disney movie. Likewise a Princess Ariel would be a girl and JAffarrulez would be more likely to be a boy.

Another assumption I come across daily is that you couldn't possibly have a good time at The Swan or Dolphin because they're not Disney owned, therefore couldn't possibly be anything worth staying at. 99.9% of the people saying that have never even stayed at The Swan or Dolphin...

...and this I know because I'm the Great Defender of The Dolphin!!!!!!
