Disappointment with Disney Visa

I do not care what the card looks like

I do not care that it will say something about "Day One or DVC"

All I care about is a decent reward. As it stands, a 1% credit towards a disney purchase of some sort is not an incentive for me. I would rather get the 1% CASH back from my Discover card.
I think it is arrogance on Disney's part to not even tell people what the rewards will be.

Oops, sorry, I forgot:
I love Disney
I love DVC
I will blindly jump at whatever bone they throw my way

Quick question, and I apologize in advance for this having nothing to do with DVC - but are the certificates good for purchasing admission to the theme parks? At this time, that's our single biggest cost of going to WDW now that the rooms are paid for.

Anyone out there know?

TIA!

The application says they are good at Walt Disney World Resorts, including theme parks and Disney Cruise Line. Considering you have to spend $1,000 to get a $10 reward, it's going to take alot of charging to get enough to make a dent in the cost of passes.

We got it, but knew it would be super-lame before the details were ever released. I thought they might give you like 3 month interest free purchases while at WDW.......well, that's a big loser. The only purchases that are interest free are if you purchase one of those overpriced WDW packages that include your park passes. And, you have to pay for the package before you arrive at WDW.

Thanks Disney. That really helps your loyal DVCers/AP holders. All this and no annual fee. What a bargain.

Imagineers worked over time on this one.

How shocking!! You mean you don't get something for nothing?Guess dad was right!!!

Some of the stars on the card are holograms (like the old Disney credit card.) All VISA cards have the same size VISA logo and dove hologram. The issuing bank sometimes appears on the front of the card but always on the back.

From the bankone website:

"Special Disney Bonus Offers.
In your statement and online, you'll get special bonus offers that let you earn double, triple or more Disney Dream Reward DollarsSM on selected Disney purchases or get more with your reward dollars when you redeem them. As a Cardmember, you'll also receive special bonus offers, such as special deals on vacation packages or merchandise when you use your Disney's Visa® Card. For example, you'll receive a $50 onboard credit when you or your travel agent book a Disney Cruise Line® vacation with your Disney's Visa Credit Card. The offer is good for sailings through 12/31/03."

I'm hoping the the bonus offers will be similar to DC discounts.

I pay my credit card off at the end of the month, so interest doesn't concern me and since I'm using a card with no rewards right now, this will be better than nothing. I'm not going to cancel until I know exactly what it is I'm giving up.

Regarding the 1% - I'd like to contrast this to what you get with the AmEx SPG card when used in conjunction with the Swan/Dolphin. I am booked in June at Dolphin for a week at the $129/night Government rate. I got an AmEX SPG (Starwood Preferred Guest) card and started using it. For every 1,000 points you can be upgraded to a higher level for a night. I've accumulated over 7,000 points (I used it to charge my cruise on in January). We will be upgraded to Club Level (concierge service) for all the nights we're staying at the Dolphin. I had to charge $7,000 to get this but since we used it to pay for our cruise (and alot of other things also) it is money we would have spent anyway. Contrast this to the Disney Visa - if you charge $7,000 how may points would that get you - $70. That wouldn't even pay for upgrading to concierge for one night at any of the Disney Deluxe resorts if they allowed you to do that.

Well, be lucky you can even apply. Being Canadian, we lose the advantage of the disney club card, but are unable to acquire the Visa. After emailing, basically we have been told, too bad. So, our discounts, or benefits are pretty much gone, not much we can do.

maryann--

I am sure you are disappointed that you can't get the Visa and that DC is ending. From my personal standpoint, unless you spend every dime on that card the rewards you get aren't worth it. Like someone said...you have to spend $1000 to even get $10. That's enough for one person to get a counter service meal - maybe. And I know that it can be said, 'well that's one meal I don't have to pay for." Okay, but I can't see going to all that trouble to get only $10 in rewards.

I for one will miss what we had with DC, but I am not sorry that I don't have that Visa.

It DOES INDEED make more sense to save on the cost of a Disney vacation using your no-fee airline rewards or hotel rewards card!

Disney didn't make their incentive good enough for me to switch my purchasing habits from those cards. Too bad, cause I would have liked to use a Disney branded card!

I didn't expect that this card would be "something for nothing", but it isn't even competitive!!!

Perhaps if the card is less than successful (i.e. we don't jump at the lame offer) Disney will come up with better offers.

could you tell me about the points on amx what do register as to get the points for an upgrade what do I call and tell amx I want my reward program to be this quertion is for wolfpack fan I do have both cards

Here is why I applied for the card. I charge everything my AMEX card and get miles. AMEX is not taken is some places, only VISA/MC. So I will use my card in those places and take what ever I get. Something is better than nothing.

does anyone know what address we can write to if we want to write a letter to Disney complaining about how lame the Disney Visa is and how it just is NOT an acceptable replacement for DC?

i was gonna reply to this thread talking about why i didn't apply for this card, but then i figure, if i'm going to take the time to write something... i might as well write a letter to Disney.

so, if anyone has an appropriate Disney address, please reply and post it. thanks!

(sorry, i just had to add that i didn't apply 'cause i don't want to support Disney on this particular venture. i don't want to give them the false idea that they can keep taking away perks/discounts and people will still keep throwing money at anything labeled Disney. at least they need to know that they are pushing away SOME of their former loyal customers. if millions of people apply for the card even though the perks suck, then what incentive does Disney have to come out with a better card or better perks/discounts?)

Hey, how do you think I feel?? I thought the DC was lame and not an acceptable replacement for the Magic Kingdom Club!!:D

MKC had better discounts AND it was free! The lame charge card is just another way of thanking all of their loyal customers.

Pretty sad, huh?

actually, you're right. i forgot about that. it seems so long ago, i forgot i had the MKC briefly for a year before DC came out. grrrr... Disney had me thinking that DC was good. :earseek: argh.

yeah, see how Disney is? if this keeps going the way it is, and we keep supporting these crappy offers, in a few years, they'll have come out with something even more pathetic... and people will be saying

"hey where can i write to complain about how lame _____ is, and how it's not an acceptable replacement for the Disney Visa card?"

*shudder* ugh.

Did anybody log onto the Disney Visa Website, or was it just me?

I logged onto the Disney Visa Website that was given when I received my card (today) and there were 6 categories of special offers. Right now some of them don't contain anything, which I attribute to the fact that the card is brand new, but there are a couple of offers out there, and I imagine as the card gets going they will most likely add more.

The categories are Walt Disney Resort, Disney Entertainment, Disneyland Resort, Disney Merchandise, Other Disney Vacations and Other Exciting Offers.

A few categories only have one offer and some have none, but as I said, I bet they'll add more once it gets going. Remember we all jumped the gun and applied almost the moment they opened the phone lines!

This may not work out for everyone, but I really think it may work out for me. At least I'm willing to give it a try.:)

got my card today and I actually *like* it. lol

DH thinks it is ugly, but I like it. Whoever said they gave high limits was not kidding, lol. It does say DVC and day one on it.

It's a card plain and simple. I'll use it because I've been using my GM card all this time and I don't like GM cards anymore, lol. (other than SAAB and that doesn't count towards the GM card 5% cash back.)

The way I see it I can put my business purchases on it (I pay them off each month) and earn about $100 in disney bucks each year.

Be careful on the business purchases. Most of these reward cards prohibit accumulating points for business purchases. I got mine today and was just looking at the booklet. Rule 8 under General Terms: "The Disney Dream Rewards Dollars are available for personal purposes only and cannot be accrued or redeemed by business, commercial, or government transactions or accounts". Someone posted on another board that they got caught with business purchases on an account and lost their points. I use mine occasionally for business but scatter them around on different cards so it's not noticable (I have several cards that get rewards - AOL, Sears, HSN, AmEx).

We applied for the Card, have not received it yet. I, like several others, don't care how it looks - wife probably will. We picked up the card because there is no cost, thus no risk, and we will see what deals come out. We are looking for deals on passes, as stated earlier, APs are our largest expense now. We figure to give them a year or so and see what, if any discounts, etc. The 1% will be nice, but not enough for me to change my spending habits. So, if it doesn't work out, I will cancel, but for the most part, it is competitive in the rewards department. Can you get better deals that are specific to a hotel or airline, sure, it does not cost those entities anything to upgrade or give you a seat that would otherwise be empty. We are a Delta hub, I have a Delta Amex that works great for me.
