Disappointed with newspaper coupons

I decided to jump on the couponing bandwagon. I used to be a casual user when we were first married but nothing serious. Half the time we forgot to use the coupons we had. So today I went and bought the Sunday paper for the first time in several years. I had read that there would be a P&G ad in it along with whatever else.

I got home all excited and start pulling it apart and find the P&G insert, a Target P&G insert and. . .

NOTHING!

That was it for coupons. Not the Red Plum or Smart Source or anything else. All the store ads are in there, but no flippin coupons. The places I read on line said there should be 4-6 inserts today. Of course they said it could vary but that is a lot of difference and probably a waste of my $2.10 for the paper. I am really bummed. :guilty:

hmm I have not received my coupons from my Dad yet (he gets 2 papers and saves me the coupons) so I can't say if they'll be in there but these are the ones that were supposed to be in there this week

You are only guaranteed coupons in your paper if you subscribe to it. In our city the majority of the newstands papers do not have coupons in them.

:confused: Okay, none of the couponing websites have said that! At least that I have read.

I got Redplum, Smartsaver and P&G in my paper, but you really weren't missing much. For some reason the majority of coupons this week were for pet products. There were tons for pet food, treats, etc. I didn't see many this week for any products I buy.

There's a pretty good Pepsi/Frito Lay insert in today's paper, too.

It can vary by regions/cities too. My free paper had the one smart source with the pet stuff. The one I bought at the dollar store had pet smartsource, other smartsource, red plum and pepsi insert. No PG this time around. I have weeks where there are no coupons in the paper at all. Just depends. Try printing some and trading with co-workers/neighbors to get more variety.

That stinks. Many papers have cut back on coupon offerings (even to subscribers). I was lucky to get all 5 inserts in my paper today, but I am a subscriber in AZ.

There are lots of ways to buy whole inserts these days of you want to get back into couponing - and your local paper is not good.

I am a big couponer but honestly get very few of my coupons from the newspaper. Most of mine are internet printables. Many of the coupon websites will match up store's weekly ads and link coupons available online to the specials. Also, if there is a product I need or want I will google that product or go to the manufacturers website or facebook page looking for coupons. Many times there are ones available. Like you, I got tired of spending $2 a week and not getting very many if any coupons. Good luck!

That is why I flip through the paper before I buy it. Yes, I am there at the newspaper stand in the grocery store checking not for sections of the paper, but to make sure coupon inserts are in there.

If someone from the store saunters over, I just say something like "making sure that all sections are there". I also grab from the bottom of the pile just in case people have been just stealing the coupons.

I don't care about the actual paper, I'd rather get just coupons.

I got five coupon packets in my newspaper. I am trying to get better about using them and trying to lower my grocery bill. I have two 4 dollar coupons from Wal greens and will be using them today for some non perishables since I am going on vacation starting tomorrow.

I have a goal to try to lower my grocery bill by 15% initially and go from there.

I also do Swagbucks coupons to earn swagbucks while shopping for stuff that I normally wouldn't find in the newspaper.

I am also a member at BJ's which does accept manufacturer's coupons. Giant does double coupons under $1 so i will be trying to do that.

I'm new to getting the internet coupons....are there any sites that let you print out coupons without having to download something?

Same here, I've read on line about how great coupon inserts are going to be just to get a paper home and find no coupons so I check before buying. Although I've pretty much given up on the whole couponing thing anyway, for my shopping habits and my location I find them doing little more than getting me to spend MORE money.

Just check out the paper before buying next time, and if you have several papers to choose from in your area check them all... some have more than others.

Almost all of them use some sort of printing software that gives the coupon a unique number and only permits you to print a limited number of coupons from your computer. You pretty much have to download the software in order to be able to print coupons.

As for the Sunday inserts, I ended up having to go out and buy a newspaper since my inlaws were housesitting for us over the weekend and they tossed our early Sunday editions out for us. There were 5 inserts including the Pepsi/Frito Lays, P&G, Redplum and two Smart Source.

I do know that one of our Sunday papers does not include Redplum coupons - EVER! That's why we get two Sunday papers. And strangely enough, the Smart Source inserts in one paper are not the same as the other. Every week, the Inquirer has one or two different coupons that the Delco Times doesn't or visa versa.

bolding is mine...
that happens to me too...
our local county paper (which only comes out twice a week) doesn't always have the same exact Smart Source or Red Plum packet as the Baltimore Sun. They are similar and will have some of the same, but the packet in our local one is usually smaller.

go figure....:confused3

I get the Redplum coupons in the mail with my weekly local food store ads. This started here in southwestern PA well over a year ago. Our Sunday papers usually have something like "185 dollars of coupons in today's paper" printed on the top. If that is case and you don't get the coupons, I would take the paper back stating it doesn't include what is stated on the paper.

Before I got my paper subscription, I went to Walgreen's to buy my Sunday paper. I always had to check though, because it seems there was a coupon thief. Once I grabbed a paper once and it didn't have inserts. Luckily, I checked before paying and grabbed one that did.

Interesting that the inserts vary. I got 2 SS and 1 RP yesterday. No P&G - and I wanted 1 of those Bounty coupons!

Our paper yesterday had 3 different sets of coupons and we get our paper delivered. I even went out an bought another paper and it to had all the coupons in it.
