disadvantages of using different airlines

I have very little travel expereince. Could someone please tell me what the disadvantages are to using different airlines on the arrival and departure flights? I'd like to use AirTran for the arrival and Southwest for the departure because I can get a better deal that way. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Because you are using one way tickets you will be subject to a longer security screening. Just plan for it with extra time and you will be fine.

Hi Missy -

This past March, DH and I did this very thing, except with AirTran and JetBlue. We weren't even subjected to the extra security screening, so don't be too worried. Be happy you're saving money!!
