Good Morning all:chat:

Hope you all had a good week last week and ready to put your best foot forward this week:thumbsup2

This week I thought we could discuss what Slimming Programme you are following and how it works, I think its very interesting to hear how one programme works against another.

As you know Im doing Slimming World and its all about food optimising! You can eat as much free food as you like, these are things such as meat, fish, eggs, nearly all veg and fruit. What you are restricted on but can have a small amount daily is things like, milk, cheese, bread, cereal, soups, etc. You are given 1 healthy extra A which is cheese or dairy a day, and one healthy extra b which is bread, cereals, soups etc! Everything else is syns of which you are allowed upto 15 a day! You also need to incorporate as much speed food as you can, lots of veg/fruit are speed foods!

you can only have a certain amount of these healthy extra A and B foods and only 1 from the list, so for example if you have milk in your coffee throughout the day and you want cheese on a salad, you count one as a healthy extra, then you syn the other! If you want cereal and toast, you count one as a healthy extra and syn the other.

The overall idea is not really to have the both, and to be optimising what foods you have on a daily basis. And to make sure you have at least a third speed foods on your plate, along with your free protien.

I know it sounds really complecated as written above, but once you have your head round it and with the help of the books they give you, its really easy:goodvibes

So what are you following? Let us know on here and good luck to you all this week:goodvibes

After weighing in this week, I was a little dissapointed, I had worked hard all week with my daily walking with my fitbit and I had done 3 SP days which is speed and protein only and I lost a 1lb, I really was hoping for something better. I always say a loss is a loss and its better than a gain, but there are times when you try really hard and it seems to go against you for some reason. As Im also an emotional eater, I did what most of us do when feeling totally dissapointed with yourself and had the biggest take away follwed by a bar of chocolate! which then made me feel even worse!:(

So I have now drawn a line under it and Im back on track again this week, onwards and upwards:thumbsup2

Oh Sue! 1lb is still great! Although I can't talk, as I had an absolute pig out with a box of chocolates on Fridaypopcorn::. Anyway, to resolve this I dropped my weight loss goal this week to half a pound and increased the amount of walking I've been doing.

As regards the diet, nothing is banned or restricted, just straightforward calories in/calories out (CICO), with 50% carbs, 30% protein and 20% fat.
I prefer being a little over on the protein, and definitely watch my sodium intake!

Hope you and everyone has a good week!

I'm still not on track since Christmas. (Well things started going down hill on holiday in August :(.) I've put on another pound. I couldn't resist my birthday cake this year. Last year I was so proud not to have any. I need to get sugar out of my system as once I stop craving that things are a bit easier.

Hey, ho! Tomorrow is another day.

Sue 1lb lost is much better than 1lb gained but I know what you mean about being disappointed when you think you've tried really hard
Don't give up and you'll soon be back on track again

I keep looking at the slimming world website and think that is the better programme for me than weight watchers. I was trying to count calories in by logging them all on my fitbit but was finding it too complicated. Im not a weigh your food type of person when cooking normally and never follow recipes exact so could never be bothered to weigh it all when logging it so most of the time it was just guess work.

I really like the Hairy Bikers diet books as they adapt a lot of everyday meals and make them healthier by cutting fats/carbs etc - a lot of the recipes are so tasty as well. We've had lamb tagine tonight but the problem is they are too tasty so I end up eating a larger portion than I should

Has anyone any good ideas for lunches on the go?

Somedays lunch is in the office but the majority of times Im out and about so its eaten in my car.
On office days I will often take soup for lunch but Im trying to find ideas for days I need lunch on the go. Im trying to avoid too much bread so have stopped taking sandwiches everyday, and although I take salad occasionally I just don't fancy it too often in the weather.

I need quick and easy to prepare and eat that doesn't need heating up

Thanks Cathy, I used to count calories, but unless I wrote them down I would forget, so that didnt work as I would end up forgetting what was in and out lol, do you keep a log to mnitor your progress through the day and how much carbs, protein etc you are having?:chat:

Thanks Gill, I love Slimming World Gill for that very reason, there is very little weighing to do, so many free foods as well, and I have tried them all and this is the only one that has worked for me:teleport:

Ill have a think about that Gill, I work in the office as well, and sometimes have to travel out at lunch, I try and have something different every day,so if I am in the office then its a mug shot and a yogurt, or piece of fruit! Some days I have leftovers from the night before by making extra, curry and stir-fry which is fine if you can heat up. If I am out and about, like you I try not to eat too much bread so instead of sandwiches, I will somedays make wraps using a low fat tortilla wrap and filling it with my fav meats or seafood and salads, I also take bags of chopped up veg to munch on! Other days I take Rivita with low fat soft cheese and tomatoes and cucumber! I suppose unless you put soup in a flask or you like leftovers cold there isnt much hot you can have in the car! I do sometimes stop at the chippy believe it or not and buy a nice breast of chicken, I remove the skin and eat it hot which is quite nice!

Sue...way to go on the loss! Anything that's not a gain is good! I can't quite get my head around the plan you are on, but I know what you mean about having the book to help it make sense...I'm sure my diet plan sounds complicated w/o the book too.

Cathy & Libby - we all have slip -ups...that's why we're here! haha! YOU CAN DO IT! Here's hoping next week the temptations are smaller!

Small World - I've not heard of the Hairy Bikers cookbook before...sounds like a fun read. I love when people change up dishes they love to make them tasty & healthy...who wants to eat carrots and rice forever?! As for lunches...I like making sandwiches out of less carb-filled items. Tortillas/wraps, a large lettuce leaf, a sliced open cucumber, etc. Or just use sandwich filling as a salad topper.upload_2016-1-28_10-20-15.jpeg

I'm doing the 17 Day Diet...it's low fat, low carb, nothing processed, low salt, no sugar (except natural sugars in fruits/veg)....it sounds like torture, I know...but after the first week, I have so much more energy and feel happier...I guess it's not too bad!

Sue, just using My Fitness Pal, keeps track of all the macros for me, and I don't eat back all of the exercise calories. So far its been the best thing I've ever done, diet wise!

Love that picture of your cucumber sandwich! I'm just a little too fond of my carbs but I only take between 40% and 50%, and 20% fat. I don't worry too much if I'm a little over, but the one thing I do watch is my sodium intake. I really struggle to lose anything when I go over on that!

Slip up? What Slip up? I lost another pound this week!!!!!!! :flower1::cloud9::flower1::cloud9::flower1: Seriously, I really didn't go over my limits, and upped my walking again! It also helped that I lowered my goal to a half pound loss this week to give me the extra calories to play with.

Hope everyone has a great week!
