Hello all

Welcome to this weeks Dis Weight loss group!:chat:

Lovely to see so many of you back onto the healthy eating for the new year!

Well it was my first week weigh in last night after re-joining last week at Slimming World and Im thrilled to report that I lost 5.5lbs!:jumping1::jumping2::jumping3:

I was really pleased with that, I know you normally lose a little more the first week but I was delighted with that. Just got to keep it up now:rotfl:

I look forward to hearing all your updates:chat: Good Luck everyone:goodvibes

Thats brilliant Sue - a really good start.

Im just trying to do it myself at the moment - trying to eat healthy and watch the calories by logging food and also trying to increase exercise

I have Saturday as a weigh myself day so I'll have to see what happens then

Well done Sue. That's amazing.

I weighed myself this morning and I've put on some. So my goal is to get back to where I was and see what else I can get rid of in the process.

Does anyone else find it really hard to exercise in the winter? I love running and cycling of road, but I can't run through the park anymore because it's not got lights and it's pitch black in there.

There are no pools nearby and also i really hate gyms... Haha. I'm my own worse enemy really. Anyone else find this? Any tips?

Im the same, its too dark to go out to far, so I wear my fit bit to work and I give myself the challange of doing at least 10,000 steps before I go home, that means, getting up every half hour and walking from one end of the building to the other, taking the stairs instead of the lift, going out on lunch and walking to the town centre instead of driving. Im surprised how much the extra steps have helped:yay:

I got a fitbit for Christmas so am just getting used to it but am constantly checking my steps and trying to increase them. I don't always hit the 10000 but aim to do at least 6000 a day and try for more.
As well as being office based my job involves a lot of driving round doing visits to people in their homes so Ive been parking up the road/round the corner instead of right outside the house, using the photocopier at the other end of the room instead of the closest one, parking at the far end of the car park at the office, leaving my lunch in the car so I have to walk back there to get it mid day, using the stairs instead of the lift. Im finding just these small changes are adding a lot of steps

Oh, dear. I've put on a pound this week. :(

I'm finding the new WW programme very difficult to stick to.

May I join the group??

I am trying to shed some lbs. for my upcoming Spring Break trip to Disney.

My not so great low back is feeling the extra I have put on.

I know from years of experience that this will not do for Disney. Lots of walking!!!!! Which I mentally want to do, but cannot deal with physically anymore.

I have started with baby steps of 15 minute walks a day and cutting out extra foods and added sugar.

I think I consumed a small tray of baklava single handedly while the rest of my family went on an after Xmas holiday to the Grand Canyon.

I have never been to the Grand Canyon, but could not take being in the car that long with my stupid bad back.

So frustrating!! I have come to the conclusion that some, but not all of my back issues is currently caused by my carrying extra weight.

My hubby works for a large hospital here in TX and I believe WW may be part of our Healthy Directions plan this year.

Plus, if Ms. O. is the spokesperson, I am going to see if I can give it a shot!!

Amazing how over the past week (which is when I started this new endevour), I catch myself stopping and not going there, when in the past I would have grabbed a chocolate or eaten something else mindlessly.

My plan is the old fashioned way. I am eating oatmeal in the am w/green tea. Then lunch and dinner consisting of a protein and veggies. Salad.

I loooove bread. Cutting back on that, but broke down this morning and had toast with butter w/my eggs.

Snack twice a day between meals/sometimes in the evening. Trying to go for an apple w/small amount of pb or nuts. Was taught in the past that snack should always have a bit of protein.

Does anyone else tend to do more caffeine when they cut out sugars?

Pairing all this healthy eating with upping my movement as well. Using my fitbit and need to get back up to 10,000 steps a day.

Did just under 69,000 steps on my last Disney trip. My back was not happy.

Let me know if I am part of the group. Do not know how all this works. Good luck to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, doing about 4000 steps a day at this point. 15 min walking increments. Although today I did 30 min in one go. I felt it in my back though.

Has anyone done Pure Barre. Nearly killed me.

Thats a great idea about parking further away, sometimes I have to drive for bussiness as well, and I think I might give that a go:thumbsup2

Welcome welcome @mumumouse you are more than welcome to join in, I post a weekly thread, and we just have a discussion on how we have done for the week, what plans we are following, what exercise we are doing and generally try to give encouragement to each other, happy to have you here? By the way what is your name?:goodvibes:goodvibes

:wish155Thanks Everyone!!!!

It helps to interact with others who are in the same boat!

My annual Spring Break Disney trip has become a benchmark of sorts for me. The rest of my family just doesn't get me. How can you keep going back to the same place year after year??

Well, Orlando in the spring is just lovely. With the Flower and Garden show at Epcot. Just beautiful! It just helps me recharge my batteries.

As everyone knows, there is a lot of walking involved in doing the whole Disney tour. So, each year is sort of a challenge for me. I have back issues, so the challenge has become a little tougher each time. Every year I make it though!!

This year, I have come to the "no brainer" conclusion that my extra weight is not helping. I am not huge, but with my bad back, the extra weight I am carrying is the extra weight I am carrying!! So I know I will feel better if I can get rid of some of it.

I agree with BagOLaughs, we all seem to slack off in winter. I am here is what is usually toasty TX, so I really have no excuse. It is just a matter of getting back on track and making it a priority.

I have slacked off on my Fitbit, but it is really a fantastic motivating tool. Once you make that thing buzz at the end of your 10,000 steps, you get hooked!!
I had a routine for a while where if I did 45 min walk in a.m. and added a 30 min walk to that later in the day, I would hit my steps for the day. Anything above and beyond that was bonus. My niece, who is an elementary school teacher says she hits her mark daily, just walking around during her workday.

I think the difference is that you need to do more of a brisk walk straight thru to reap the benefits.

I looked up some WW stuff online and I think I am allowed 23 points a day. I will look into actually joining up next week.

Good Luck to Everyone!
Ann

Well Im happy with my first weeks weigh in and have lost between 2 and half and 3 pounds.
Ive been trying to log calories I eat on my fitbit - its not always easy to do as I make a lot of home made stuff rather than ready prepared so sometimes its guess work but Ive only had one day this week where my calories in were higher than I wanted.
Lets see what happens this week especially as Im out for a meal in an Italien restaurant on Monday evening.
Any recommendations on healthy but tasty food to choose?

Well done everyone.

The new WW programme is very much the same as the old one but everything has been repointed. Now it is very much biased towards a low carb diet and as I don't eat much meat I find I am piling on the points with carbs and especially with dairy. It's going to take a lot more planning as once I have gone over my points I go into the "might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb" mentality and just eat anything even though I know I will regret it later.

I'm not too impressed that Oprah Winfrey has bought shares in the company. I just think I that she is making money out of people who share her weight problems.

It's such a shame as the WW programme with its portion control is the one that has suited me best over the years.

Oi Sue.......well done sweetie...............joined slimming world last week......................lost 5lbs..............I would be happy with losing another 16lbs,
but would much prefer losing 30lbs.........my daughter gets married in 2018, so this is my goal............onwards and downwards......lol........Harry

Wow! I just realized, I have joined a UK wait loss group!

I saw Bingsings "oi" and that clued me in!

Not sure how I ended up here, but this will be interesting.

So Sue, you are Mrs.Christopher, our moderator?

Sounds like you are on the right track.

I am relatively new to Dis boards and still learning the ropes!!

Someone mentioned making selections when eating out. I agree that can be difficult. I have a 14 year old daughter and I now realize that we have been doing too much fast food eating. Also, when she wants a snack, that doesn't not mean Mama needs a snack too. So, just amazing how unaccountable I was being with my eating.

Yes, logging food on fitbit is a little off as it is all store bought, restaurant food. Well, for the most part.

I think we are all good if we try to eat more home cooked meals when possible and just eat more "real" food. Amazing how much you can eat when you are eating correctly. Veggies, etc.

I do not believe in cutting it all out, but have cut back on my carbs. Sweets. Grazing!!

It is helpful to eat a healthy snack between meals. I tend to get busy and that throws me off. Also, go for a glass of water when you feel the urge to munch.

Got Adele tickets for Houston!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Really excited about that. It was funny because so many people were not so lucky. I went to stand in line at a local grocery store. My nephew thought I was crazy; saying noone stands in line for tickets anymore.

Well, I did it the old fashioned way and guess what, I was able to get my hands on 4 tickets!

She does not perform in Houston till November. But, something to look forward to.

Okay, folks, rainy and cold here today. I am going to get out and even if I have to walk in the mall; I am going to get at least my 15 mins. in.

I am not going to weigh for a while. Just focus on eating right and making my self move around more each day!!!

Good Luck Everyone and keep up the hard work!!!!

As for healthy tasty: I find myself eating a meat portion, some sort of veggies and lots of salads!! Yummy apple w/peanut butter for my snack and don't forget healthy nuts:almonds pistachios as your fat.

There are some great broth bowls at Panera. Don't know if anyone in the group is in U.S. Set me straight on that.

I visited our local zoo yesterday with the grandkids. I feel that regular, leisurely walking is just not the same as when we really walk/briskly, so I did my about walking.com (up to 20mins) walk before striking out in the zoo.

I made sure I had my Fitbit on!

Was careful with what I ate. Since I was eating out. Especially at a place like the zoo! My daughter and I split a turkey burger and had some salad. Drank lots of water.

My issue is with my bad back, I can get carried away and forget to sit down!

Anyway, survived several hours at the zoo. It was a beautiful day here. Nice and crisp.

Got home and realized I had not put my bit in my Fitbit after letting it recharge!!!!! Darn it, I really wanted to see how many steps we had done on our zoo day!

My daughter reminded me that the important thing is I did it!!!!!!:yay:

mummummouse Welcome!

I forgot to update on Friday! Spent most of the weekend feeling shocked as I lost 2.4 lbs!!:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9::cloud9::cloud9: I have no idea how!:earseek:

I now have 0.7 lbs to lose for 8 stone (112 lbs!) and goal weight of 140 lbs is appearing at the end of this very long tunnel I have been travelling in.

Libby, good luck with WW, hope it sorts itself out for you!

Good work on thezooday, mummummouse! :jumping1:
Great loss, BingsingsWaltDisney!:jumping1:

Hi all! I'm not in the UK, just found this post by accident when I saw the link. Is it OK for me to stay and play along?

I'm in the US, I'm 35, married with 3 wonderful boys. I'd like to lose at least 30 lbs. before June (really prefer 40, but I'd be happy with 30.)

I'm doing the 17 Day Diet. It worked for me last time, but then I went off for several years, and after losing 48lbs last time, I regained 38...OOPS!
Good luck to everyone in their goals!

Oh that sounds quite hard now Libby, I did WW once upon a time, but tried SW and have never really looked back, I love the fact is mainly food make from scratch with SW and not too much focus on ready meals, which I know WW produce a lot of. Have you ever tried SW?:goodvibes

Hi Kivara, welcome, welcome, welcome, Happy to have you here, please feel free to join in as much as you like, can you explain what the 17 day diet is as I ahve never heard of it? Good luck for the coming weeks:goodvibes

Thanks for the welcome, Sue! The 17 Day Diet got popular about 4-5 years ago...Dr. Phil was going on about it, so I gave it a go.

You eat foods from an approved list for 17 days, then you move to the next cycle. Every 17 days, the foods switch up a bit, to keep your body "confused" as they call it.

It's low-carb, low-fat and nothing processed.

Hope everyone's doing well!
