We rented a car last time, and I kept getting lost. :rolleyes1

We're thinking of just relying on Disney buses only next time around.

My question though is...if we are at, say AK, and have dinner reservations at Boma, how can we then get home from Boma? I know we can take the bus from AK to AKL for dinner, but then wouldn't we have to get a taxi to get us back to our moderate resort? (AK closes so early...)

Same questions would apply for evening at MK then dinner at Ohana. We could take the monorail to the Poly, no problem, but then how to get back to our resort from the Poly? I guess if we are not out too late for dinner, we could always take the monorail back to the MK and then the buses back to our resort.

Anyone else tried this with any degree of success?

Hi there. We went to Boma after being at AK for the day. Getting there was relatively simple but to get back to Pop Century we had to take a Downtown Disney bus from AKL (which passes Pop Century) then get on another bus which brought us to the pop. It was a major pain, it was our last night and had to be up at 4am for our flight. We didn't think of getting a taxi until it was too late. I would strongly suggest you get the taxi for this one trip. Yes you can take the monorail to a park then get on a bus for your Ohana night. That's not really too bad, since the monorails run often and are so quick. We really didn't have any problems with the buses except for that one experience. I also found that the buses for DD were parked a long way from the action. :surfweb:

You can take a bus from the AKL to any park that is still open or to DTD and then transfer to a bus for your resort. It is kind of a pain, we rent a car for this reason. If I were going for a longer trip, I might spend the time on transportation, but we only have 5 days.

I would rent a car before I would pay taxi fees.

Going fropm one resort to another is the weakest link in Disney's transportation network. Any time you want to go from one resort to another, you have to make a stop at a hub first (the 4 parks and Downtown Disney are the hubs), then get another bus/boat/monorail to the destination resort. Total time, with waits and actual travel time, can be as much as 2 hours during the busy periods like July of Xmas week, or as little as 45 minutes during the off-seasons.

Taxis are the easiest way to get from resort to resort when you don't have a car, but they will add up pretty quick and might cost you as much as a rental car by the time all is said and done.

I'm with Letsbegoofy - my vacation time is very limited and is precious to me. I spend the extra money to rent a car just so I won't have to wait for busses, or jump through all kinds of hoops to figure out how to get from point A to point B.

The WDW transportation system is great; it will take you FROM anywhere, TO anywhere, guaranteed. How long it takes, and how much trouble it is to get where you're going, however, is quite another matter.
