Hi.. we are soon staying at the AKl for 7 nights. I found a great deal for a rental car for $105.00 for the week. Do you think it is worth having a car during June or should I just rely on Disney transportation? Anyone pass up the free transportation and rent a car?

That's a great price for a week's rental. No matter which resort we stay at, we always prefer to have a car over having to use Disney transportation. Our car is always ready to go when we are, is maintained at the temperature we prefer, plays tunes we like and goes directly to our destination.

You'll also find a car useful for going off-property to shop and dine at places that don't charge Disney prices.

Another big fan of renting a car here. We use our car to go everywhere on site, except for MK. It's soooo much easier to get to DD for a quick trip, and we like not having to wait for busses. Plus, we're always assured of having our own seat!!!

I'm the opposite. One of my favorite things about a WDW vacation is NOT having to drive. At the end of a long, hot day at the parks, I love getting into a nicely air conditioned bus (as opposed to a car that's ben baking inthe Florida sun all day), sitting back and resting my feet and closing my eyes (rather than having to concentrate on driving), and being able to just relax and leave the driving to someone else for a change.

I don't find bus lines to be a problem EXCEPT immediately following something like Wishes when it seems everyone in the park is leaving at the same time. Although, I suspect that while I'm waiting in line for a bus there are others waiting in line for the monorail and the ferry, and then perhaps the parking lot tram, and then perhaps a trafic snarl at the parking lot exits?

Also, it's important to note that I have ABSOLUTELY NO INTEREST in leaving WDW property. I love being in the Disney cocoon. I have no need to see Orlando and vicinity and to meet the locals. I'm quite sure the only difference between me and people in Orlando is that I own more sweaters and they have a better knowledge of really big bugs.

We have done both. For $105, I would get the rental car.
Last trip we just used Disney transportation and it was mostly fine. Going and coming from Downtown Disney was the worst.Buses were always crowded and people were standing. We did take a cab from WL to POP to save time one night also.
This trip we will have a rental car.I think it will free us up to see more things .I want to do some shopping, go to Universal and meetup with some friends.

We've done both and while we have never had a problem with Disney transportaion the convenience of a car can't be beat...and you have a great price too!! The best part of having a car is if you are traveling to another resort for dinner. It takes about 1 - 1 1/2 hours by Disney transportation..each way. Also if you have little one like we now have, a car is great for a quick get away from the parks.

For $105 I'd get the car. Even though you're car might not be as cool when you get into it at first, a minimal amount of time will be needed to cool it off so long as the a/c is working properly.

I totally agree with the idea that the car is ready to go when you are, and takes a direct route to your destination. Yes...it is nice not to have to drive after a long day at the parks, but sometimes the transportation system can turn the day into an even longer one if your resort is at the end of a transportation loop.

It is great to be able to control your own schedule.

I finally got tired of the Disney buses so we have been renting a car and driving to the parks (when a bus is the only resort transportation option) since trip #14. Standing up on a bus, holding on for dear life around every turn and pressed up against strangers is not my idea of a vacation. But that is just me and my space issues. Other guests have no problem with it.

CleveRocks, you sound just like my husband! He says going to Disney is his vacation from driving since he drives 90 miles RT to work every day. And like you, I never want to leave WDW, so we don't worry about how w'll get off site, LOL

Get the car. For that price you can't go wrong even if you don't use it every day. We got a car in 2003 which we planned on for only a couple of days to go to Sea World and the ocean and ended up keeping it the entire trip after tiring of waiting for Disney Buses. We are renting this time for $147 for 8 days for a Chevy Trailblazer and will use it for everything except MK where they claim it is quicker to use the bus.

Yeh, there's just something so WONDERFUL to me about putting my car key in the room safe and when I check out a week later not even remembering where my car key is! I drive a lot for work, too. That and the constant trips from where I live at the shore to visit relatives in Northeast Philly make me love NOT driving at WDW all that much more. I'm not exaggerating, if I was given a FREE rental car I'd turn it down.

November can't come soon enough.
