When Iger took over some 20 years ago, he made the statement that the Disney animated Princess movies were the life blood of the Company. So when was the last Princess movie, maybe Moana? I just googled and there are no Princess movies scheduled to be released in next 2 years. To me, this is evidence that Disney has lost its way.
Wish seems like a movie where the heroine becomes a princess in the end.

Wish is kind of a Princess movie. The main girl isn't actually a princess, but it's a musical set in a fantasy kingdom. It will play in that space for sure.

Blu Rays have fallen in sales but I personally think it is important to own physical copies of media you enjoy -- that goes for books as well. Streaming services add and remove titles constantly, plus they can "edit" them as they please -- same with books. I digitize all my DVDs and Blu Rays and run them through a Plex server so it's like my own personal Netflix, but then I have all the physical copies if needed. I just keep them stored away in totes. I'm generally a minimalist in other aspects of my life but I like physical books so we have bookcases in practically every room of the house. Unfortunately many people do not feel that way and just pay for streaming services but are at their mercy with title availability.
While pretty cool, I would think your stance is very rare nowadays.

Raya and the Last Dragon in 2021.

Yeah, but while Raya was a Princess, the movie wasn't really a "Princess Movie" as in a Fantasy Musical. Some of the Princess Movies, don't even have princesses, like Mulan. I think Wish will play much more closely to that style.

I’d put Moana in the same kind of princess movie as Raya. Just yes, Raya doesn’t have songs.

Yeah, but I think the songs are a huge part of the vibe. If it's not a musical, it's playing in a different space. this is why Kida and Eilonwy aren't considered "Disney Princesses." They are from Disney and they are Princesses, but...you know.

The trailer for Wish suggests this movie has a ton of potential. This may be the movie that stops the theatrical bleeding for Disney later this year. Anyone know the release date?

Take it up with Disney who refer to Raya and the Last Dragon as a Princess Movie.

Hmm...that's a controversial include. Did she ever get a "Coronation"? They used to do that to induct new Princesses. Notice too that Anna and Elsa are NOT included as Frozen is distinctly seperate from "Disney Princess" title. Also, Raya is not included in the Characters at the bottom of that page - they are the official ones.

Come on, Man! Don't start. They don't use any of the live-action versions for the "Disney Princess" brand.
You sure about that, they already changed the character in the Disney junior stuff. Looks like the original flounder, but an updated Ariel to me.

They also generally consider Disney Junior stiff to be seperate from the "Disney Princess" brand. It is a very specific thing. They did at one point include Elena of Avalor, however she seems to have disappeared.

I tried watching Raya and the Last Dragon on my flight to my Disney Cruise. I almost walked out...of the flight. I don't know why Disney gives Awkwafina so many VA roles, she has one of the most annoying voices and cadences I've ever heard. I couldn't finish it, she's just too grating.

100% agree, how on earth is she popular? That new song in the new TLM, maybe the worst Disney song I have ever heard and made me want to stick an ice pick in my ears.

Do any of the other princesses look a good bit different in skin tone on junior vs official? If not, I would say there is a decent chance the character will be changed in all forms.

I buy only Blu ray/DVDs. We travel in our RV and WiFi isn't always available, or is so slow its not reliable for streaming. With the disks I always have something to watch. My goal is to eventually digitize everything but it hasn't happened yet. Finally, I have what I want to watch with me and dont have to rely on someone else's menu to pick from.
