DIS meets... What are they?

Hi everyone... I just started getting into the boards. Forgive me if this seems to be elementary but what are the DIS meets? Is it just a group of folks getting together casually? Is there anything in particular that happens? I would think it would be a great way to meet up with some new friends that are local.

Yes, it's just a casual way for people on the DIS to socialize in person. Some people organize a get together in a restaurant, at a movie, or at the parks.
