Howdy all,
On another message board that I'm active in, the membership changed a while back to a standardized format for the subject lines of meet threads, which keeps them a little more readable and easy to understand as they move up and down the list.
The format is simple - date first, then time, then description & location. The date is in European format YYYY-MM-DD for easy sorting (did you know you can sort the topic list by thread title, as well as by date?). The time is usually in AM/PM format, but a few enterprising folks use the 24-hour format; I personally find the 24-hour format cumbersome, so I don't use it.
As an example, I have changed the title of my own current meet thread for the MouseFest DIS breakfast meet to the standard that we use on the other site:
2008-12-11 8:00am MouseFest DIS Breakfast at Boatwrights, POR
I'm just curious to know if anyone on the DIS might be interested in using this format for meet titles? The purpose behind it is to make meet threads a little easier to sort through to find meets that are happening during your trip; when sorted by date, the thread titles will give you all the info you need to find meets that you might want to attend.
And the best part is, anyone who might want to change the title of their thread to use the standard format can do so without affecting anything in the thread itself - just edit the first post, go to Advanced mode, and change the title. It's easy and quick.
Anybody think it might be useful here?
