Good :shamrock: to everyone on their weight goal... I am doing ok... Since I have been out walking more and I was sick last week I am doing good.. Still have 15 more pounds I want to lose to hit my personal goal...

Today I had a bagel for breakfast... A salad for lunch and a slice of pizza for dinner... No snacking YET.. If i'm hungry later i think i will try some raw veggies... Staying away from the sweets is killing me... Oh i did break down and had a small white chocolate mocha at starbucks.. Hey at least I didn't get a large one...

I think you've had a pretty good day, Teresa. :thumbsup2

The sweets are killing me too. The candy dish at work I mean. I need to accidentally knock it off the counter and shatter it into a hundred pieces I think. :rolleyes1

So, um, yeah. I found that extra half pound I had lost this weekend at WDW.

Next!

Kat, I dont remember if I took two days this month or not. But if I didn't I'd like to skip today. :P

I think the only way to get over this weight issue is to spill it here. So, here goes. When Kat started talking about starting WISH I weighed myself and was 162.2. I was aghast! By the time we did our first weigh in a week or so later, I weighed in at 159. I think my lowest weight has been 155.8 since we started. Well, slowly but surely I have edged back up to...161.8 as of this morning! So, over my official starting weight, but almost back to my high weight. :sad2:

Now that I have that out in cyberspace, I feel I can press on.

On Friday evening I went to a mom's football camp for my son's new school. One of the speakers was the nutrition and exercise guy. While he was there to talk about our sons, there were a number of questions about weight loss for the moms  . I will pass along a couple of interesting points:

weight x 10 = daily calories for weight loss
weight x 15 = daily calories to maintain weight
weight x 20 = dailyl calories to gain weight

For some reason the guy said to take fish oil for weight loss :confused3

Also, he said interval training is important for weight loss. In other words, don't languish on the tread mill for long stretches, do 10 minutes, then some intense cardio, followed by 10 minutes, etc.

Well, I am regrouping. I have decided on the SOS diet for the week. Smoothie, oatmeal soup. So far that is going well. When I see results, I will modify 2-3 meals per week so I can remember what it is like to actually chew food!

Unlike me, I hope you are all a bunch of losers today! pirate:

I have always taken fish oil daily since i was a teenager... That may be why I can maintain my weight pretty good.. I quit taking it this past fall and gained about 20lbs.. So I am back on it and doing good.. Not sure why its good but it works for me...

Fish used as a fat blocker. It helps your body pass the fat through your system easier.

I was taking a pill a day and then noticed that my stomach was bothering me off and on. I have stopped taking it and have had no more stomach problems. :confused3 Not sure why I had that type of a reaction.

Christine, I had heard that about the 15X but I am glad to hear about the 10X. Makes sense.

I am trying to find out what time our gym opens here. If I can go in the morning, I think I might actually go.

I am sure you will knock those pounds back off in no time.

And as a reminder ladies, we have three weigh-ins til the end of the first mini-challenge. Still some time to give it all you've got and win a prize!

Or course not. We are surrounded by food. Everyday. Think about it. So much of our lives are centered around food. Every event I can think of is as much about the food as the event itself.

Football games= tail gate parties and food
Baby showers= food and cake
Summer picnics and BBQs= food
Office potlucks and parties = food
Holidays= lots of food
I think this is a HUGE part of it. Food is everywhere. So many of our celebrations are about food. On the one hand I don't want to spend the rest of my life counting every single thing that goes near my mouth, and never enjoying some of the yummy things that are out there. On the other hand why does the celebration have to be about food?? Why can't we celebrate a birthday without cake? Why can't a family barbeque be about family and not food? I don't know what the answer is, I certainly don't have it, but there must be a comfortble medium out there and I need to find it because it seems like there is always some excuse why not to eat right. I was going to say that in the end I only hurt myself but that's not entirely true. My kids will suffer when their mom can't keep up with them, my kids and husband will suffer if I die from a heart attack at 38 because I'm so fat. I am not the only one who will be hurt. I am, however, the only one who can do something about it. Sobering thought, but now I need to follow through
When I did WW I ate alot of prepackaged foods because it was easy to figure out the points. It gets monotonous but I think I need to do that again. I am eating way too much of the dinners we are making. I need something to give me portion control.

Beth, you gave alot of useful information today. Thank you.
I find myself eating lots of prepackaged stuff too. On the one hand it's good because with say, a WW dinner, you know when you're done, there's no room for error. I hate how much money and packaging is wasted though, not to mention that it just seems to me that local and fresh must be better.

I won't take fish oil because I just think it's gross, but DH takes flax oil capsules and it really helps with his energy level. If he's having a smoothie he will put (okay, I put) flaxseed in it. I can't take the flax because I am prone to heavy bruising. I forget what the reason was, but he seems to like it

My new strategy is to eat before I go and plan in advance what I will eat while I am there. I figure that I personally can make the event about the people and not about the food.

Did you try the fish oil in capsules? They just seem like oversized vitamins to me.

That sounds like a good plan. I know they have it in capsules but I'm a vegetarian and so the idea is just not for me. I stopped taking centrum when I found out they contain cod, and went and found a vegetarian vitamin as well as a supplement called Very Green, which has all sorts of good stuff in it. Taking those two things plus Vitamin D has helped my energy level and to some extent, my mood. :goodvibes

Well, I tried my own advice this morning and it worked pretty well. I went to the volunteer appreciation breakfast at my son's school this morning. I had my smoothie before I left. I decided that while I was there I would focus on chatting with people I have not seen in a while and eat some fresh fruit. At the tables were cups of OJ, pots of coffee and a bowl of blueberries (the school was awarded a national blue ribbon award of excellence this year, so everything has had a blue theme).

Without thinking, I drank the OJ that was at my place. But, after that I was fine. The kids served me a plate of pancakes and sausages. I just scooped some blueberries onto my plate and ate them. When my son came by I gave him the sausages and left the pancakes untouched.

Now, the next event will be my nephew's First Communioun party (in MANCHESTER, CT) on 5/5. I will have to make sure I have a strategy for that.

Looks like your strategy worked pretty well Christine. :thumbsup2

I went by the work out room today but there were no hours posted. And no one in the office to tell me.

I am hoping they either leave it open or you can use your key. If I can get in there at 5:30 a.m. I will be a happy girl. Hopefully everyone else will be asleep while I'm trying to get my workout on.

I know I will be!

Good for you!! That's great how you handled the breakfast. Where in Manchester is your nephew's communion? I ask because I live in Manchester. IT would be funny if it were at my church! We won't be around next Saturday- opening day for T-ball, ballet spring show rehearsal, birthday party, bridal shower, DH's birthday, and something else I forgot if that's not enough.

I remembered that you live in Manchester, that is why I hightlighted that in my last post! The communion is at Church of the Assumption on Center Street. Your schedule for next Saturday makes me tired just looking at it!

I got on the scale today...and I am down 6.4 pounds since the weigh in on Tuesday. That would put me lower then my lowest point during our WISH! However, I don't think losing at that rate is a good thing, and my guess is that I will be up again by the next weigh in. Even though my clothes feel a lot looser, it is making me wonder if something is up with my scale  .

Hey Kat--did you find out what the hours will be for the gym?

Christine, I was sick today so I haven't but I am going to try and find out this weekend.

I saw you on this thread, I thought I would link to it in case some people haven't seen it. Maybe some of us can get some motivation from here.

That much weight since Tuesday does seem like quite a bit. Maybe a good bunch of it was water? :confused3 But it does sound like you will be down on Tuesday.

I had to go and pick up a VPK form this morning (preschool program they have here in Florida) and I ended up having to take a long walk whether I felt like it or not. Which I did not. But I did get in some exercise.

THAT'S MY CHURCH!!!!!!!! Does your nephew go to the school there or just the church? I ask because my oldest goes to the school there too and we're pretty involved,it seems I am always there for something.

Congrats on the weight loss, I Agree with Kat, maybe it is a lot of water weight? Have you been exercising more to give that little boost?? Who knows, just love it and go with it. Plenty of people will have one or two big weeks towards the beginning, maybe this is yours?
