Dis Health Check-In 20th June

:rotfl: Berwyn!!!

I decided to stick a metaphorical two fingers up at my lack of weight loss last night and went for a long walk- just over 3 miles by way of our local pool where I also did 25 lengths. Hopped on the scales this morning full of renewed optimism and guess what? - yes a pound ON!!!!! Maybe you're right Berwyn and it's muscle but it sure looks like fat to me!!! Ah well, a few choice expletives were spat out (including some German ones - what a wonderful language for really vicious-sounding swear words!!!). Suffering a severe case of sense of humour failure at the moment!!!!!

Di,
I've just tried it , I normally don't go on in between, but I'm 2lbs heavier than yesterday. Crazy  And I did the morning walk + the exercise video in the pm.

The things we should all avoid though are the "diet" drinks, One cal , Diet Coke etc. They all contain the sweetener Aspartame which not on ly causes cancer but also causes carbohydrate cravings and a host of other nasty side effects. www.aspartame.com.
Despite it's appearance This is not just a site ranting on about the drug the facts are correct. It is in most "no added sugar" drinks and artificial sweeteners, apart from saccharin and Splenda
DS2 did a research document on it for his A level biology.
Also obviously stick to whole carbohydrates rather than refined white. And loads of fresh fruit and veg. Juiced, smoothies, lightly steamed or raw.

Oh dear - this is no doubt why they tell you to only weigh once a week!!! Think I'll follow that advice from now on!!!
I have to admit to drinking "no added sugar" drinks. What's the alternative - apart from water? BTW why are we supposed to drink gallons of water every day? Don't want to spend all day in the bathroom! :rotfl:
By whole carbohydrates do you mean brown rice (white is so much nicer!!) and wholemeal bread and pasta? Why are the nice varieities always bad for you?

Di,
Sorry Iseem to have been on and off the diet treadmill for so long I seem to expect others to be the same with the terms.
Yes brown rice, wholemeal bread and pasta couscous etc. the problem with white refined is that the crbs hit the body so fast the insulin levels rise quickly to cope and then drop suddenly leaving you feeling empty. Whole ones go in slower.
we need to drink about 2 litres of water 6-8 large glasses a day. It doesn't have to be pain you can flavour it. I drink hot water with a chunk of lemon in, Fruit and herb teas, (the beauty of these is you can drink them when cold unlike tea and coffee). Green tea and bottled water .Watch some of the flavoured bottled waters some of them contain Asparame too.
You're talking to the five pints of tea a day man here! I now drink only about 1 cup of tea a day, no instant coffee and the occasional filter coffee.
The water cleans the body and also you get out of the caffiene addiction.
Jason Vale the Juicemaster is brilliant, he really puts you off the food we shouldn't eat but telling you exactly what's in it and what it does to you.
www.thejuicemaster.com for details.
I don't follow his advice fully but do as much as I can (DW thinks he's a crank).
Also if you have Sky and look at the Power Juicer infomercials up on the shopping channels 630 and up, you will see Jack Lalanne who has been juicing for many years and he's fitter at 88 than I've ever been.

It's always the asme, the naughty stuff always smells so much better when cooking and seems to taste better at the time.

Thank you Berwyn - you're a regular fount of knowledge!!! I'll have a look at the Juicemaster but doesn't fruit juice contain a lot of calories too?

Yes, Ideally what you should do is eat your fruit (either as it is or in the form of a smoothie if you've got a blender) and drink your veg from the juicer (not all your veg you should eat some). I know it sounds horrible but I have got recipies and tips.
I't's not that you shouldnt drink fruit juice but don'tt drink too much.
sorry for the slow reply but I've just ben for a walk up the promenade, It's really handy 3 miles by the time I've been up and down

Well done you, especially after a night at work!!! How do you manage to work all night and DIS all day??? :rotfl2:

also your body's fluid levels change each day, so thats why you can weigh at different times of the day and have different weights. i try not to weigh my self now, only when i go to ww on wednesday night.

Hello Jeanette,
I do WW at home with a CD rom. It was cheaper :rotfl:
I normally do once a week but only went on to see because of Di.

It's been my nights off the past couple of days LOL.
When I am working I don't seem to need a lot of sleep and am up by about 1pm.

No it's I who must apologise Di. I didn't mean to imply anything, I just wanted to be nosey to see if it was just you who had gone up or if it affected everybody.

If you want to see how food affects you watch "You are what you eat " tomorrow at 8pm. on channel 4. It features Michelle Mcmanus who won Pop Idol 2

Now there's a young lady who makes me feel good!!! :rotfl: Sorry - don't intend to be mean but you have to like people bigger than you wherever and whenever you can find them!!! :rotfl2: Good idea to watch the programme though.
BTW just noticed from your signature that you're the same age as my DH - a very good vintage!!! ;)
