All, I am still alive but barely awake. I'm done to 6 days for DS17's graduation. I was sewing curtains from 9pm to 4am Sat night. Then I had to sew some more Sunday. DH finally put the curtain rods up. So I've been hemming or resewing what I've already done. I hate lining curtains.
Also with this rain, I've had my makeup soccer games, makeup kid's baseball games or practices, plus senior dinners, awards, lectures and allthat crap. I have not had time to post or read. I think I am 6 pages behind in reading. I laughingly skimmed over the "crabs". I had to take my Pfaff sewing machine to a store to repair. My regular guy died 2 years ago. No wonder, I could not get through his phone number.
But most importantly what has been happening that is taking most of my "computer time" is discussions with DS17 college decision. DS17 was waitlisted then finally denied from MIT. Renssalear (RPI) waitlisted him. Purdue offered him only $500 scholarship which makes it $37K for our out of pocket. I'm sad that he can't go where DH and I went for engineering. Missouri Science & Tech, Rolla offered him a nice affordable package but he must maintain a 3.5 GPA which he felt was too high to maintain all 4 years. So he chose CalPoly. CalPoly is $28K - no scholarship!! But he can apply for in-state and his tuition will be under $17K.
So he decided to take all the money that we saved for his college, $28K, and use it up the 1st year. We will basically disown him so that he can live in-state the remainder years. He plans to COOP and get his own loans & aid for the remainder years. CalPoly encourages this for their out of state kids. We told him that we would NOT be able to help pay anymore for his college because of the 2 other kids still in the house that we still need to educate. He went private school from K- 12 where the other 2 are public schools.
Well, RPI accepted him and just offered him a good deal where we will only have to pay $15K/yr out of our own pocket. He has $10K loan. They rest is scholarship. RPI is $51K/year. This is easier on us but he has higher loan payments to pay at the end of his senior year. This makes it easier for us to pay for his college the 1st year rather than us paying $28K. We'd have to cash in on life insurance, sell our other 2 kids bond money, sell my car and use his car (since he can't have one on campus for a year). Selling my car will pay off 2 car payments. But then I would have to buy another car in a year when he needs his car to go for a COOP school job. But he is dead set on going to CalPoly now. What is even worse is that DS17 had already a 15K scholarship from RPI that they gave him last August. But DH & DS17 read the elgibility time frame wrong, so DS lost the original 15K. Otherwise he would have had 15K + 35K (given now) = $50K. We would have had to pay practically nothing but help DS17 with his loans after he graduated. So I have been crying and crying while sewing and getting the house ready for his grad party.
I've just not in the mood. I'm tired and worried that my kid may not be able to go to year 2 in college. This thing is just making me sick and puke!!! So that's the main reason why I fell off the PEEP world. I can take on VD and crabs... well maybe not. I've never had any of those before.
BUT I am still going on this cruise!! We are still doing FE. I need my better sewing machine to sew the FE. I'm sewing with my backup Singer that only sews straight. I can't even zigzag!! That's also why it took me longer to sew. My Pfaff is a way better, faster, straight stitcher than my Singer.
Yes, DS17, who is staying with MIL & FIL will participate. But MIL & FIL will NOT participate. I will be making 2 FE for our room and DS17. We are across from each other. We are on deck 2 CAT10 in the inside stateroom unless Sue Ellen can put some pixie dust and move us to a outside stateroom

. Just kidding!!
On a side note about DS17's college choice, CalPoly is way cheaper than RPI. DH made a 5 year spreadsheet. DS17 will have a lot of loan money with RPI than CalPoly when he graduates. But what I am trying to stress to DS17 is that we can at least pay for his year 2 with another $15K. But that's it. $30K is all we are able to pay for his college.
Cheri, I may have to email you separately for the FE rules if I don't have the chance to read up the last few pages. I just had an email post message that Annie was wondering where I was and started to post here without reading the last pages. Sorry.
Oh, I just saw a Happy Birthday Jared. Jared, Happy Birthday!! I'll have to check my list to see which Peeper you belong to.
Good night folks.
