DIS Digi Challenge - Week #13 - Face your darkest fears

The inspiration for this challenge comes from the #13 since this is the 13th challenge. :) Generally the #13 is considered unlucky and there are some who are even afraid of it, especially on Fridays. ;) So for this challenge you are going to be asked to scrap something that you or someone in your family is afraid of that is Disney related.

For me that has always been the thrill rides like Tower of Terror, Expedition Everest, and Rock n Roller Coaster, though when I was little it was Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Though I actually liked Mr. Toad's at Disneyland. I think as a child it was the part where you go through Hell that scared me. Though the big thrill rides still scare me. You won't get me on Everest or Aerosmith EVER!! LOL

Requirements:

1. Layout needs to be about something you or someone in your family is afraid of or strongly dislikes. It can be a ride, an attraction, a character.

2. Use ONLY 2 different papers and 1 must be a print. Recoloring would count as a different paper and against your limit of 2. I know I’m mean. Be creative with how you utilize your paper.

3. Journal at least one paragraph of 5 or more complete sentences. And I will count to make sure there are at least 5. ;) :rotfl:

4. Alter the edges of your photo(s) - ink the edges, tear the edges, burn them, grunge it up and do it without using frames or borders.

5. No more than 13 embellishments of any kind

6. As always it does need to be Disney related.

7. HAVE FUN!!!

Layouts must be posted in this thread with proper credit by 11:00 PM ET on Tuesday, July 15, 2008.

Prize:

There will be 2 winners who will each have their choice of a kit by Britt-ish Designs. One winner will be selected by me and the other by my sister.

And to get the challenge started, here is my layout:

I like picking who wins! Lots of fun! Though let's get on with announcing the winners. YB likes to talk too much! ;) Here is my choice:

The journaling was really cool. And I love carousels! Mostly because it annoys YB. :)

Yes, your obsession with carousels is rather annoying. ::yes:: :rotfl: :) Anyways, here is my pick:

I loved the journaling. That is so something I would do! I sort of did with Test Track last year. I was soooooo gonna ride it but then chickened out. The photo of the empty seat and the arrow pointing there was the perfect touch!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! :woohoo: :thumbsup2 :cheer2: You both have won your selection of one of Britt's fabulous kits!!! WOO-HOO!!!

Thank you to everyone who participating!!! All of the layouts were awesome!!! It was such a difficult decision.

You're a task master this week! ;)

I don't really know how to do this (still trying to decide whether to subscribe to atomiccupcake), hopefully I can figure something out?

Love your LO. Have to figure out if I have pics of something I'm scared of at Disney. I've already scrapped TOT. Hmm.

Great challenge.. this one will have me thinking and learning for sure! I have also never done anything (digitially) to the sides of my photos...so it will be a first for me. Where can we get more ideas/tools to do this?

Here are some tutorials:

burned edges (Would make for really cool pirate looking stuff.)

torn edges (This is the easiest way to do it, imho.)

grunge (There is one technique here that doesn't require using the brushes to paint it yourself...something I never could get the hang of. I'm too orderly, I think, to be creative with the brush!

Hope those help. They are all Photoshop tuts.

Thanks for the links Terri. Don't know if I have something suitable for this challenge. Hmmmm.

this will be easy for me as I am scared of almost every ride! i went on Dumbo this time (going round and round makes me nervous because I get motion sickness), and that was a big step! LOL
Sounds fun!

My kids are young and not risk takers....I hope I can find something appropriate to scrap. I didn't ride a single adult ride when we went, much less one that would have scared me.

Thanks for hosting this week, yzerbear. I am really going to have to think about this one since I love all the thrill rides! TOT is my fav!

You ARE a task master Melissa!! SHEESH! HAHA!! But it sounds like a lot of fun.

Idea for everyone who said they aren't sure they have anything to scrap - a Haunted Mansion LO would work! It's SUPPOSED to scare you! :) :)

LOL :lmao: Yep. :) You know, I orginally was going to have 13 requirements, but decided that would be a BIT much.

Thank you! I was going to go look for some to post, but was too tired last night.

Sounds fun!
LOL I was afraid of Dumbo when I was 7, but after I rode it I LOVED it. My sister really doesn't like it because she also gets motion sickness, but likes it better than the Tea Cups! ;) Which from now on I think we will ride in our own tea cups so I can spin super fast and she can just sit there not spinning hers.

I have just the photo for this. Awesome!!
Awesome! Can't wait to see what you have in store. :)

Thanks for hosting this week, yzerbear. I am really going to have to think about this one since I love all the thrill rides! TOT is my fav!
You brave, brave person! I'm such a chicken when it comes to rides. I'm determined to ride Test Track on our next trip. I wanted to in 2007, but after hearing the screams, I chickened out.

Yep. ::yes:: Good suggestion about Haunted Mansion. ;) Another might be Mickey's not so scary Halloween party. ;) Or a character from one of the movies that might have scared you when you were younger. There are lots of possibilities! Just be creative!

Back in the days of centuries past, long before the dawn of VCR's, remember that the Disney movies came back into theaters every few years? Well my mom took me to see Bambi in the theater, I must have been around 5 or 6 years old. We had to leave early, I was so frightened about the fire part that my mom just took me home. I don't know that I can make a LO about that scary ole deer! I think of Bambi every time I see a dead deer on the road too... poor cute little deer!

You guys! I did mine already but it totally took on a life of its own and I did NOT meet the requirements!! OOPS!!!

SORRY MELISSA! I'm a bad example! :guilty:

Here is my LO but again - I didn't actually meet the requirements. I tried, but sometimes the LO takes over!!!!! Gotta keep it real.

Journaling Reads:

Matthew was scared of EVERYTHING at Disneyland. Especially rides. Even if he had already been on it, he would freak out, cover his ears, cry, & say he didn’t want to ride it.
Well, it came time to ride one of my favorite rides, The Haunted Mansion. I knew getting Matthew on it would be a trick. On our way over I took his hand, explained how much fun it was & told him to show everyone how brave he was by riding it. He put on a brave face and actually rode it! He sat by Josh & I, & he actually had a good time!! I was so proud.

Wonderful LO Britt!

Here's mine:

Melissa - I love the journaling on the layout. I love TOT and could ride it over and over - but the anticipation of the drop is what kills me - I am always searching of the sliver of light right before the drop and doors open!

Fran - Bambi was my first Disney film and scarred me for life - the losing the mother is what killed me! I can't watch the part in Lion King either when Simba crawls under Mufasa's paw and doesn't understand why he won't wake up!

Britt - cool layout - the postage stampy thing is really neat. The Haunted Mansion is the main attraction I would like to see if we ever get to Disneyland. My DH love the WDW HM building - I prefer the style of the one in DL.

Bernie-Ann - Wow - he was so little and now he is as tall as Goofy. This layout is so sweet - how quickly they grow!!

britt, I like the overall orange and I first glanced at the gold pumpkin as a stem with the photo itself being a pumpkin, which I like! Not sure if that was your intention (probably not, if so...it's subtle! LOL)

Bernie-ann very sweet way to turn a scary 13th into a touching moment!
:)
