Hi all and welcome to the Dis Dieters thread for week commencing 1st January 2012.:)

We will start off with a weekly thread and see how much interest we get :goodvibes

So here we are in January and Im sure if your like me you want to lose weight for the new year and shift some of those extra pounds we gained over Christmas And New Year:goodvibes

So lets use this thread for any tips, ideas and encouragment for us all to keep going and of course our weekly weight losses and progress.

So join in and tell us a little bit about what you hope to achieve, you can post as little or as much information as you like.

How much would you like to lose?? Are you following a weight plan like Weight Watchers, Slimming World etc ?? Do you go to classes or do it online?? What type of exercise if any do you do?? What tips do you have for us all?? Do you have any slimming recipes that we can follow??

So come on, Join in and lets lose some weight for the new year, you are all very welcome and I look forward to hearing from you all.:)

Well here we are first week in Jan and I need to lose weight!!!

I guess we all say that, however this year for me its a must, I havent been very well the last few months and although I gave up smoking over 8 months ago, my breathing has been dreadful and Ive been struggling with everyday activitys for weeks.

After being admitted to hospital a few weeks back, I have been diagonised with a condition called COPD, which is lung disease. I was devestated and I am young to have this condition. There is no cure but hopefully can be managed with steriods and other meds, obviously giving up the smoking is going to help me no end, but I have to now ease the pressure on my lungs by taking more exercise and losing some weight, so I really do have to do it this time.

I have been a yo yo dieter all my life, 2 stone off, 1 stone on, etc etc, but I really need to focus now.

I have 3 stone to lose in total but Im aiming on a stone at a time, my next hospital appt is the 1st week of Feb, and I would like to lose half stone before that time to show them how commited I am to keeping myself well.

Its also my 50th Birthday at the end of March and I would love to lose at least a stone if not more by then:)

So good luck everyone, and please let us know how your getting on.:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes

Ah Sue, I'm sorry to hear you've had some troubles over the last couple of weeks, I wish you all the best in getting yourself back to health and I hope the loosing weight goes well for you :thumbsup2

For me well, I'll be back on this thread in March time hopefully, as by then my little bundle should be here safely and it'll be time to get back into 'yummy Mummy' mode :lmao: At the moment my only plans after the birth is to ease slowly back into a routine, ie, out for walks with baby in pram and maybe a swim (if I have time :rotfl2:) every now and then. I think for me, it'll be more focused around trying to eat well whilst on maternity leave than all-out exercise like I did before.

I have been informed by my OH that he'll get me an X-Box Kinect too, so I can do my own 'Zumba' in our front room too, which is kinda hopeful when the little person is napping at times.

Either way, good luck to all who join! I'll keep popping by until I can join in for real to see how everyone is doing and offer some encouragement

Wow Sue, I can't believe it's 8 months since you gave up smoking, where has the time gone ? :confused3 Well done hun :thumbsup2

:wizard: I wish you lots of luck with your dieting, and I hope you reach your first goal by February :wizard:

Rachel, we'll see you in March once your little bundle of joy has arrived :)

Well, I will be back on my diet tomorrow morning and I'll have my first weigh-in first thing, then Friday's will be my regular weigh-in day. I don't follow a diet as such, I just try to cut down on the rubbish and eat lots of WW products (I don't count points/calories). Zumba starts back on Tuesday evening (yay !!), and I can't wait to get back to my 3 classes and 1 toning class a week

:wizard: Good luck everyone :wizard:

ok...my plan is that I am going tobe a good girl and start healthy eating NOW! Both DH and myself need to bin a load of weight!!!! I don't believe in the word diet as such because its a life style change that is required. We are both vegetarian and tend to eat the right things but too much of them. I always make my own food and when the recipe says it feeds 4 to 6 well we tend to eat the lot between the pair of us!! :scared1: DH is also down for a total hip replacement soon and he is young for this but his hip bone is just crumbling away (family history) so he def needs to get rid of the weight for alsorts of reasons. Unfortunately, I LOVE to make cup cakes and although I tend to off load most of them on to DH or my workmates we still eat them as well, so this has to stop.:sad2:
So now that all the rubbish Christmas food has gone its time to begin. I shall have to get into the routine of freezing food instead of eating it all in one go.
As for the exercise, well the most I do is 20 mins walking a day to and from the works car park. Hate the gym and NOBODY is going to see me in a swimming costume until some of the weight has come off! (my body only sees a swimming pool on holiday when I am sure I won't see anybody I know)
How I wish I could wave a magic wand:wizard:
Good luck everybody and let the hard work commence.

Vanda

:wizard: Good luck to you too Vanda

Well I have just weighed-in, and I'm shocked to have put on 1/2 a stone over the festive period  So I need to lose that 7lb as soon as possible to be at my 'happy weight', then once I am a couple of months before my (yet to book) holiday, I will have a further 4 or 5lbs to lose

:wizard: Good luck everyone :wizard:

I am dreading weighing in on Thursday as I have had a bad few weeks, however Hubby and I are wiping the slate clean and starting again I am determind to reach my goal this time.

I will be returning to the gym and following weight watchers and getting out and walking as much as possible as this also benifits me as I suffer terribly with Seasonal Affective Disorder.

I have the overall aim at the moment to loose around 2 stone

good luck to everybody xx

Well i have been on the scales and its not good news:eek: i now have 3stone to lose. I will be joining slimming world as i think i need the support and weekly weigh in to get it off. I am alos going to go to the gym 3 times a week so hopefully i can shift this weight.:goodvibes

Good luck everyone:wizard:

Well I feel a bit of deja vu .... this time last year I was at exactly the same weight and then I decided that when I returned from my cruise in October 2011 I would not carry on eating rubbish as I had in 2010, and once again I ignored that plan and carried on eating rubbish right up until today! I was 10 stone 13lbs before my cruise and once again I am a stone heavier than that as we enter January. :sad2::sad2::sad2:

I do have serious will power issues but once I get going I am able to keep it up for a few months, so I will just try and extend the good behaviour periods. No cruises booked this year so no excessively ridiculous eating habits ... and lots of work to do on the house which should keep me busy and active.

Plan once again is to start eating healthy diet tomorrow and start exercising .. walking and using the Wii Fit again. I now have the Zumba for the Wii and hope to give it a go this week. Once I feel a bit better about myself I will go to a local zumba class.

Good luck everyone .... once again I hope to be able to lose a stone ( ideally more ... but lets be realisitic ) and keep it off in 2012.

Hi all

Although I have been a lurker on the Dis for a while I have decided to come out o the woodwork and join this thread i NEED to loose weight getting married next year and i will not buy a plus size wedding dress no way no how! My main downfall is work i sit by a pc all day and pick at crisps and sweets then at lunch i have some sort of sandwich with crisps and fizzy pop so starting today I am meal planning and not taking money into work so I am not tempted I have tried slimming world and weight watchers and stick to it for about a month then give in so I am hoping you will help me.....
I have just made a batch of ham and pea soup for this week at work so I am not tempted.
Apologies for the long rant.

I haven't posted on the Diet threads in ages but I have been continuing to go to Slimming World and at my last weigh in before xmas (think it was 20th) I had managed to lose 5st and 5lbs since joining in mid Jan 11. I have probably put on at least 5lbs over xmas as I fell back into eating the wrong things (although proabably not as much as I once would have done) - the scales will tell the story tomorrow night. I have set myself a goal of being 1 stone lighter by Easter (which apparently is 14 weeks away) and long term I would like to lose at least another 2 stone - my main aim for this year is to tone up and get fitter as well as keep on the weight loss trail.

Good luck to everyone

Kathryn:)

Aww good luck Vanda, I hate the gym as well, and due to my recent illness I can only do soft exercise for a bit, so its walking and swimming for me, I hope all goes well with your DH hip op.:goodvibes

Hi Sarah
You remind me so much of myself, my will power is absolute rubbish, however as my daughter reminded me this morning I gave up smoking a 20 a day habit that I had for 32 years without blinking 8 months ago, so I guess I must have some will power, but I do love my food. Good luck hon and Im waiting on news of the transatlantic cruise as well, lets keep our fingers crossed:goodvibes

Hi there, welcome to the dis dieters your most welcome, Im sorry I dont know your name, but like you Im sat at a PC all day and its so easy to pick at sweets and crisps, and like you, its always a fattening sarnie, I love the sound of your pea and ham soup, thats my favorite. I have just bought some of those soups you just add boiling water to, not great but they should hopefully tied me over until dinner when I plan to have my main meal of the day. Good Luck to you:goodvibes

Well Ive just come back from weighing and with the exception of many many years ago,Im the heaviest now that I have been since Ive been in my 40's, whilst Im not really surprised as Ive given up smoking and Im on daily steriods, it was still a shock to see how much I have put on, I actually need to lose more like three and a half stone, so its going to be a long old road, but hopefully I will stick to it. Good luck everyone:wizard::wizard:

I have surprised myself managing to keep motivated - but I think the support of going to a group and seeing the scales drop week by week has helped - I have only missed 3 weeks in almost a year of going to Slimming World - another plus has been being able to buy clothes I like rather than that fit - I have gone from a size 24 to being between a 16 and 18 normally (and have the occasional new size 14 top). I have found SW easy to follow and do have the occasional blow out but it is all about changing what you eat - a lot of my weight was gained from eating rubbish - I didn't eat a biscuit for the first 4 months after I joined SW - now I only eat the odd one - not a whole packet. I think you need to be in the right frame of mind to do it and I was in that place this time last year (and part of my xmas gift from my mum was money to join SW with!)

I cook a lot more from scratch and don't feel I am missing out on anything - I just adapt what I am having to a more SW friendly recipie!

thanks Kathryn

I think I am going to have to join a club..Rosemary Conley is near by and they do an exercise class afterwards.
I need that discipline of being weighed each week.

:wave2: Welcome to our Dieting Thread girls

:wizard: I wish you all lots of luck over the next few months, and I hope you reach your next mini target very soon. I look forward to hearing about your weigh-ins and tips

:wizard: Good luck
