DIS cookbook idea?

I posted this over on the Community Board, and it was suggested I post over here as well.

I love regional, local, charity cookbooks! In the spirit of those, maybe we could put together an online DIS family 'cookbook' of your tried and true favorite family recipes. Anyone interested?

The responses I've had so far seem positive and lean towards publishing and selling for charity. I think that's a GREAT idea, and I'm happy to steer this if there's enough interest and participation. What do you think?

I'm never sure about copyright issues with these cookbooks. I'm terrible at recording where a recipe has originated. And how much has to be changed before it is no longer the same?

I love sharing recipes & don't think that's the issue. It's the publishing & charging for them...even though the proceeds would be for charity. I know that doesn't matter with things like music CDs - I'd imagine it would be the same for recipes/books.

We did a cookbook as a gift for the teachers at DD's school. It included recipes from students and families. It was a huge hit. I used this company for the publishing:

They were wonderful to work with (I was on quite a deadline) we were able to use our own custom artwork for the cover etc...

I would definitely recommend them for anyone looking to do a cookbook for church, school, family reunion or whatever. I'm not sure of all the ramifications regarding selling cookbooks as ours were given as gifts.

As long as DLCharmed one doesnt spearhead it- I don't mind the idea-

My other board has done one for the last two years and it was very hard to do (as people had paid up front then costs soared and eventually several people were out over a hundred bucks) We didn't/haven't had any problems with copyright but then again we were just doing it for us not for profit

I would just be afraid of having someone make a bunch and then them not selling at all- If you want to make it a DIS one Id figure out who the DIS Shopkeeper is and talk to them about it and get their opinion on whether it would fly/be allowed/etc etc

I've started with a letter to Webmaster Pete to see if this might even be allowed. You all bring up good points. It might be best to maybe make on online cookbook and just park it somewhere, not 'sell' it. We'll see what he says about the whole thing and move on from there.

I went to a huge Creative Memories crop today in Hartford Ct at the new convention center with ajksmom (aka Kristy) and Linda Scappini,( a consultant there) was doing a demo on a book she did. It was called Cooking with Mickey and Friends. The book was an ABC Disney cookbook, she used the red 8x8?? album from CM. Kristy and I thought it would actually make a very cool swap. Linda's had recipes for kids but you could also do family recipes or Disney recipes. We thought it was a great way to combine everything we do here. For the "D" page Linda had pigs in a blanket but she called it Dogs in a ????, I can't remember the last word now, it might have been sweater. Anyway that page was scrapped with Pluto.
I know the boards are covered up with swaps right now but I thought someone might be interested in doing something like this later in the year. Let me or Kristy know if you are since I would love to do it too.

You know, this type of alphabet swap I could get into. They're talking about doing an alpha swap soon, but we haven't gone to Disney often enough (and no trips planned anytime soon) for me to do another Disney album. But to integrate it with my recipes....now there[/I] is an idea I could use!

Do you think I should post a new thread to see who else would be interested?
Then we would also need to decide how the recipes would be done, either personal or from Disney itself. I've never done a swap before but I think it would be fun for a first timer. I wish I had taken pictures but I could probably do an example from memory. I would just need to learn how to post a pic.

Hmmm, well I'm not sure about doing with the recipes. I already have hundreds of Disney recipes. I was just thinking it would be a great way to use the ABC pix. I think since they're already doing an alph swap you might hit some conflicts there. Maybe you could post your recipe version/ideas in that thread & see if you can all work together.

Still haven't heard back. I will try again today. I've had a busy week at work and a ocuple of sick kids at home, so I haven't had much time to DIS this week, but I'm still excited about this idea too!

I am pretty new here, but had a thought maybe for the time being just make sticky topics for recipes- like one for meats, desserts, salads and one for misc.?It would be one way for eveyone to share their rrecpies, an easy way to find something quick and they wont get buried in the boards........plus if you do publish a cookbook all the recipes are there and also people can post if they tried the recipe and if it turned out ok....just a thought............
