Dis Breast Cancer Survivors Part IV - GAGWTA

The mastectomy is done and tissue expanders in place and I got to come home yesterday.

There were no other signs of cancer so that was good. I'm sore and tired but making myself get up and move and trying to drink the water that I'm supposed to. I discovered that too much water makes me feel icky.

I still need help with most things but was able to get out of bed alone and can now walk without feeling woozy so that's great. Hopefully moving around today more will get me in even better shape.

My cats are worried and are hanging out with me - my DS18 keeps checking on me but I think I make my DS14 nervous because she has barely said Hi, silly girl.

I can hardly believe is 2014 now. Happy New Years Everyone!

So glad you got a good report and that you are home and beginning your recovery. Sending you all my prayers, pixie dust and good wishes.

GaSleepingBeautyFan, Thinking of you! Be good to yourself and let others pamper you. You deserve it!

Gasleeping beauty - glad you are home and recovering post surgery. Yes as Peg said rest and let others take care of you. I am sure your dd will come around. One of my ds had a hard time adjusting to things too. One day at a time.

PrincessKs mom - Its great when you can finally shower! Hope the pain is manageable

Its going to be blizzard like conditions overnight here. They are saying up to a foot of snow so we shall see.

New Years eve as a family we went out bowling. It was fun. I actually bowled one whole game. I think I got 24. They had to help me up and down the lane. Later my L shoulder was really hurting. That was where my neck dissection was. Strange as I was throwing the ball with my R arm. When we got home dh and I both got the motrin. Later 2 of the ds went out to parties.

Dh leaves Mon. for a week in Calif. Then he said he has to go 3 more times before the end of Feb. gheesh!

GAGWTA. Thinking of you all.

Gasleepingbeauty- glad the surgery went well! I hope you're feeling better quickly!

I successfully had my CAT scan on Christmas Eve! (IV worked first try- I called it my Christmas miracle. Man do I miss my port for things like this!) Got the results on Tuesday. The radiologist saw a spot in one of my lungs that he thought might be cancerous, but it's apparently stable. My oncologist doesn't think it is anything to worry about, so I'm not worried at this point. We're going to scan again in about 4 months (as long as nothing changes in the way I feel), and I don't have to go back until the end of February! :cool1::cool1:

The hole in my chest is ALMOST healed- just a small wound that's getting better every day. I see the surgeon again on Wednesday to see what he says, but I think he's going to be happy. I'm pretty happy with the way 2014 seems to be starting (medically anyway- now if the snow would stop falling I'd be even happier. Maybe if it was a little warmer too. :rolleyes1 )

I hope everyone is doing quite well! GAGWTA!

Great news!! :banana::yay::dance3:

Kofslinky, glad to hear things are going well!

GaSleeping, hope you are feeling better each day!

LMP, your family bowling outing sounds fun.....I haven't bowled in years. I'm really bad at it - even managed to throw the ball backwards one time!

PrincessK, how are you doing?

We are still on vacation, unfortunately going home tomorrow......it will be sooooo hard to leave the absolutely beautiful weather here and retun to sub zero temps and snow. Smiley, I just have to say thank you so much for the suggestion of heading down the coast on Hwy 1!!! OMG, that drive between Carmel and Cambria was amazing!!!! Then spending two nights at Moonstone Beach - heaven! I will post more and some pics after we get back.

I hope everyone is having a Happy New Year thus far!

GAGWTA!! :goodvibes

Cheryl, I think you've got it right, spending some winter in "Middle Earth". It's so gorgeous there. I want to go back so bad!

Koflinsky, glad you got a reprieve. May it last forever.

Connie, sounds like you are recovering really well. That's very good news too, is that from the lab report? Here's hoping you will be all done soon.

LMP, it's good that you have some grown sons around to help with the snow etc. DH must be so sick of all that travel.

Yes, 2014 needs to be better! DD had a bad 2013, broken wrist, health scare, breakups, didn't get a job she really wanted. And 2014 started off bad. Her roommate's little dog got into her dark chocolate and gave them a scare, but seems to be ok. Then DD had to go to urgent care for a girl problem. I fed her some black eyed peas that day. At least we are taking turns with the bad luck, but I think she still needs her Mommy.

Our kitchen is done, except for the backsplash tile and a new table. We are using the old one that doesn't match, it's fine for now. Feels like I lost some cabinet/drawer space, but I have miles of counter space. It's not cluttered yet, lol. I do love it, and the new Viking gas cooktop is a dream!

:cool1: soooooo happy you liked that portion of your trip! it is truly amazing!!
Glad to read everyones good health reports!
We had a very good time with our grand daughters and when we were dropping them off at the ferry with their mom, the oldest 2 started crying...of course then so did we :( I don't know how we would cope if we lived something like a plane ride away! that would just be horrible.
We are however completely worn out and I think in future we will have to have only 2 of them at a time! I am so worn out in fact, that when I opened my emails yesterday and saw a really good deal on a trip to Hawaii I booked it!! We leave on the 13th! 10 nights in Honolulu!! we did that many years ago along with maui and kuai, and yes Waikiki Is busy, we love it there and boy am I looking forward to it!! Ordered hubby a life proof cover for his new ipad mini 2 because he wants to use it for pics and videos at the beach :) needless to say the projects here are put on hold for another couple of months but I can live with my old stove a while longer!

Glad that you enjoyed your visit with your granddaughters.

Congrats on booking a dream trip!

I am so jealous!!!!

I had my first post-chemo haircut today! It is still short, but much neater now. She told me to come back in two months for another trim. So nice to actually need a cut again! lol!

:cool1::banana: Congrats Peg!

Smiley: Glad you had such a great visit with the grandkids. And good for you for booking that trip! :beach:

Smiley, :woohoo: the trip sounds amazing! We are here in blizzard conditions, with tomorrow's high temp to be 14 below, not to even mention the wind chills. I would love to be headed somewhere warm again! Good for you!!

Peg, yay for needing a haircut! It's the little things.....

Dancind, your kitchen sounds great! Any pictures for us to see?

I havent even starting going thru our trip pics yet.....will get some up hopefully soon. I have to head out in the awful weather tomorrow for my CT scan. Brrrrrr!

GAGWTA!!:goodvibes.

Smiley, was telling my husband about you. You are my hero! If not now, when? Right?

Ok, going to try some photos. Haven't done this in a long time. I've been forbidden to show pictures before the tile backsplash goes up and then we get shades, so don't tell!

Didn't work, sorry! I don't remember how to upload to my service, so will have to figure it out.

I survived the weekend. Saturday was a really bad day - pain and a horrible headache and just not feeling well.
My husband was hovering, teenage son was making a ton of noise in the room above and I was the biggest witch ever.

Sunday was much better - I had gotten clearance to try a quick shower so I did and felt so much better afterwards. the pain pills were working and I didn't have a headache.

Today my husband went back to work thank goodness. I know I should appreciate his help but his hovering gets old quick.
He is going to take half a day off on the day I can finally get these drains out - still not sure when other than it will most likely be one day this week. I can't wait.

Today I've only taken tylenol and been just fine so I think I've turned a corner. Yay!

Glad you're feeling a little better GA.

My appointment for my results was for Wednesday. Doctor's office called and said he's not available Wednesday, can I come in tomorrow morning at 9:30. I've got a really bad feeling about this. :worried:

Well, either way it's been 3 months since this all started. I need to move along one way or the other. My nerves can't take much more.

GA, Glad your doing better. Getting the drains out will make you feel much better! I hate those thngs!

PrincessKsMom, Try not to read too much into it. Praying you get good results!

Princessksmom I hope all is well for you. you know in your head worrying does nothing but upset you, and that you shouldn't, but just try to stop it....ha! sometimes it is impossible!! Hang in there
Gasleepingbeautyfan.... praying for you to feel better every day! so painful and uncomfortable :( it is what has stopped me for going for cosmetic surgery and why I am still lopsided ;) I think maybe later this year I will do it, but I just don't know. I finally am down to pains once in a while, I can put my arm above my head totally, only have some lymphedema once in a while that causes a lot of pain...just don't know if I am ready to reverse that right now!
Dancind you are so sweet! lol..... I sure hope you can figure out how to put up your pictures, I really want to see!!!
snappy, I am jealous of you all the time living where you do!! so that's ok!! lol....
Peg isn't it nice to have hair to cut!! I was so happy to hit that time :)
Cheryl....you need to get some pictures up for us to see!! I am so glad you had such a good time!! you have to tell about where you went for dinner in cambria, did you see hearst castle? walk on moonstone beach? did you go to sleep to the sound of the crashing waves? are you ready to move there like I am? :goodvibes
I can not believe at this time next week we will be in Hawaii again!! I am so excited I only got 4 hours of sleep last night! Our flight home doesn't leave until 11:25 pm! the nice thing is that with the time change even thought the flight is only 5 and 1/2 hours it will be 7 in the morning when we get back here so we can just head straight home on the ferry. the ferries stop running at night so if you don't catch the last one at 10 you are stuck till 7:30 am! But.... it means we check out of our room at 12 pm and have 8 hours until we head to the airport. I was going to call the hotel and book the room for the extra day just to have use of it until then, checked availability and everything, but got distracted and when I called tonight they are all booked up :sad2: He said they will keep our luggage and we can have use of the pool and change rooms and washroom until we leave, so we will just have to go to our last dinner all sandy from the beach! at least this way we will be out and about for sure, not wasting time in the room! :beach:

Keep in mind, they make you come in for GOOD news, too. Would be nice if they would just tell you over the phone.
