ladies ...my oncologist is really really hot...and I get to see him every three weeks. the eye candy helps when I'm doing my chemo.

hhhmmmmm.....maybe we should post pics of our docs and have apoll on who has the hottest doc. Mine has a pic on the practice's website but he's better looking in person ;)

Hollyann....thinking of you and hoping you're not too sick from anesthesia...praying for good results too.

Busy weekend here...birthday party for 4 yr old grandson tomorrow, baptism and party for 1 yr old grandson Sunday, DD home from college for parties, lots of chores and errands that I put off every night after work when I feel too tired LOL

Hope you all have a good one.

I'm a little annoyed at my doctor's office today -- despite him being a hottie.

I was supposed to get my pre-chemo bloodwork done today. I went to the labthis morning -- they open at 7 -- but couldn't get the labwork done. seems that when my doctor's office filled out the paperwork for the current blood test, they listed all the diagnostic codes they needed but forgot to write down what tests they wanted done!!!

so I called this morning and spoek to a receptionist, who couldn't help me. she said someone would call me back, but no one did. so I faxed a note to the doctor along with te form and expalined the problem.

if I don't get the bloodwork done I'm going to have ot delay the next cycle of chemo. grrrrr......

This is a real bummer, Lessa. I hope the doc takes action, this is inexcusable.

Glad you joined us, Laurie. (Love your name too) :teeth:

Laura, glad Lisa is doing well. Also, glad you were able to schedule your GYN appointment next week, I'll be thinking of you.

Have a great weekend, Ann.

I have been away awhile. We had a MAJOR issue with our son this week. I just don't have much energy left for much else. I think we have a solution and maybe things will settle down a little, I hope.

Hunkering down for Rita, schools are out today. I think we have everything we need in case the power goes out (probably will for a while anyway).
Still had a lot of supplies from Katrina. Man, I really overbought bottled water. Glad I gassed my car up early. The majority of the stations I passed today were out of gas. The grocery stores are out of bread. I think a lot of people coming in on I10 from Lafayette and Houston areas stopped here for
supplies/gas. I hope they are able to find places to stay.

I have been feeling a lot of aches and pains this week, I think stress induced.
Can't help but worry about something more serious going on. I have my next visit with my onc.doc early October, and I'll have my bloodwork and chest xrays before then. Hoping I am just fatigued and stressed.

I thought my in-laws and friends would be returning soon to N.O./Jefferson Parish to start clean up of the houses. Now with Rita who knows. My friend working in Houston fled to Dallas Wednesday night. She was smart and lucky enough to leave early and avoided those horrendous lines, and she has friends in Dallas who took her in. She has stayed in 3 different places in Houston over a two week period. She had to fly her DS17 to her ex-husband in Colorado so he could attend school. But she is amazingly upbeat. So different from some of the stories you see on tv.

GAGWTA, ladies!!

Laurie

Lessa... :( that stinks!! Hope it gets straightened out so you can keep on schedule!

snappy.... :grouphug: P and PD for the issue with your son. And you HAVE been under major stress with everything else, I hope the stress and fatigue are on the mend soon. Prayers for you and all in Rita's path.

Hollyann, you will be in my thoughts still.

GAWTA for a great weekend.

We are good here.

Lost power about 8 pm, just after I had cooked and cleaned up after dinner.

DH and I were up most of the night, the weather was too scary and he could not use his CPAP machine so when he did doze it sounded like Rita was in the room with us. I may give him a new nick name.

Power back on around 4 am. This storm seemed worse in B.R. since it came in at night but it sounds like a lot fewer people are without power this am. I guess most of the unstable trees bit the dust during Katrina.

Still alot of wind.

Good news:

A/c units, tv's, computer did not suffer when the power flickered, everything is in working order.

I'll get lots of exercise helping clean up the branches, twigs etc throughout our yard once the rain and wind decreases. Some major branches down but none on the roof. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

We are blessed. Thanks for listening everyone.

Good News! My biopsy came back negative! It was encapsulated fat in a nodule? Not too sure what that is, but I know what it isn't! I didn't post yesterday because I was sore, tired and nauseous. I'm feeling better today, but ready to go take a nap!

Take care ladies!

Snappy - glad you're doing well with the hurricane.

Glad everyone's doc's are hotties! Would you believe I knew 3 of the anesthesiologists that came through the surgical ward? It's a small world! One of them I hadn't seen in 10 years - he was a neighbor!

Take care ya'll!

Glad to hear your news Hollyann!! :cool1:

snappy, our thoughts and prayers still with you!

:boat: ~~~***GAGWTA sistas***~~~:boat:

Hollyann- Awesome! I'm so happy to hear your great news!!! :cheer2:

Snappy Laurie- I've been thinking of you and wondering how you guys were doing down there. I bet your body hurts, good grief! I'm glad to hear you've weathered this one. Keeping you all in my prayers...

Lessa- I'm sure you'll straighten them out! ::yes::

:grouphug:

Good news HollyAnn! I'm so glad for you.

Snappy, glad to hear you are safe.

This is a happy day for me. I'm 4 years cancer free today! :cheer2:

More later when I'm on my other computer. I hate typing on this keyboard.

MerryPoppins - congratulations on 4 years....any plans to celebrate!?

GAGWTA EVERYONE!
Hi to the newbies on this thread. Laurie, my mum was diagnosed back in March. What a horrible time that was. Getting better now though.

Update - as you know, we don't have insurance concerns here in the UK. No rush out of hospital. My mum's surgery went well on the 13th, but she still has her drain under her arm so she is STILL in hospital. 12 days and counting. Surgeon won't release her until fluid is 30ml or under in a day. We are hoping to get her home on Monday but it's not certain yet.

She feels great. Doing her exercises regularly. Some stiffness at the shoulder but not major. Numb in the back of the upper arm, with occasional odd sensations.

Now for the very good news. She got results from the surgery yesterday. The surgeon said that the chemotherapy had done a spectacular job and there was virtually nothing left when she operated! Lymph nodes were almost clear too, in her words 'only the tiniest speck left'. They were all removed anyway though. Radiotherapy will follow just as an insurance policy but the doctor said this bodes extremely well for the future. Needless to say we ewre all very relieved and happy yesterday. My mum told me that she cried afterwards, through sheer relief. The nurses were all very happy for her too.

It's not been the easiest 2 weeks for any of us. Very very tiring going to the hospital every night and twice at weekends. I kept busy at work but didn't realise how wound up I actually was until last night. When I got home from visiting I got a bit upset too, I think it was me releasing pent up concern and anxiety.

We're all feeling good today, seeing better times ahead. She just needs to get home now and work on avoiding that stupid lymphoedema!!!!

Take care everybody.

Louise

Great news Louise! I'm so happy for your mom.

Yes, we are going to a church dinner tonight. It's a festival with entertainment and lots of good food. Should be fun. I'm looking forward to it.

:cheer2: Happy Cancerversary MerryPoppins!!! :cheer2:

Louise- I'm so thrilled for your mum's great news! It's amazing the differences in health care here in the states...though I can't say I envy her 12 days in the hospital, 8 days was enough for me! :faint:

:grouphug:

Just checking in. It's been a very busy month and a really busy week. I'm pooped! Passed my 2 year ?anniversary? of the day I was told I had cancer, Sept. 19th. Always get kinda pensive around then. It seems like it's beena million years ago. All is well.. Apologies for not checking in sooner! GAGWTA!

GAGWTA! :sunny:

Wow, I can't keep up with everything going on on this thread!

Congratulations to Merry and to Minnie (Minnie, I got my news literally a few days after you on Oct 7, 2003). :goodvibes

HollyAnn, great news!

I wonder how Susan (Daxx) is doing? :confused3

Louise, hope your Mum is home soon. After my surgery I had to go in every couple of days to have the fluid under my arm aspirated with a large needle since I had no drains. :faint: Yuck!

Busy the last few days but got a chuckle out of everyone thinking their doctors and nurses are hotties. Sorry, completely can't relate. To me it would be like having a crush on your cousin or something, a bit too close to home if you know what I mean, LOL.

Deaths Have Dropped Steadily for More Than a Decade

By Salynn Boyles
WebMD Medical News Reviewed By Michael Smith, MD
on Thursday, September 22, 2005

Sept. 22, 2005 -- There is more good news in the battle against breast cancerbreast cancer. Newly released figures show that deaths continue to decline, dropping about 2% a year since 1990.

The drop was most dramatic among women under the age of 50, whose breast cancers tend to be more aggressive and harder to treat. The number of breast cancer deaths for this age group declined by 3.3% annually between 1990 and 2002.

The figures were published today by the American Cancer Society, which reports each year on breast cancer trends. ACS officials credited earlier diagnosis and better treatments for the "slow, steady drop" in breast cancer deaths over the 12-year period.

Breast cancer education efforts aimed at American women have also had an impact, says ACS director of cancer screening Robert Smith, PhD.

"Women know a lot more about breast cancer than they did 20 years ago," Smith tells WebMD. "They are far more likely to report the first signs and symptoms of breast cancer promptly. And doctors today are more alert to breast cancer and less likely to dismiss a patient's concerns."
