I have been a member of these boards for quite some time and I am a self professed Disney-a-holic. I do not post often but enjoy lurking and reading the many diverse opinions expressed on the boards. I usually check in on 4 main boards: Canadian Visitors, Community Board, Disney Rumors & News and the Debate board. Of course now that I am planning another trip to WDW (YEA!!! :bounce: ) I will be spending time on some of the other boards as well.

Lately I find the Boards getting somewhat negative and it makes it a little harder to really get excited about my upcoming trip. Don't get me wrong I am looking forward to it and I am sure my family and I will have a great time, I am just wondering if a lot of over analyzing is being done here lately.

I am not talking about the business of the Disney Company itself, I find those debates quite fascinating and informative. Reading comments and debates between DVCLandbaron, Bob O, thedscoop, Another Voice, Walt's Frozen Head etc...gives me a very interesting perspectives on the Business of Disney. I find these learned posters posts quite intriguing , intelligent and well thought out.

The problem I have is with the overall negativity as it relates to vacationing on Disney's property. It seems that some posters on these boards have made it their lifes work to put down any little thing that Disney does, and would not be happy even if Disney handed them everything on a silver platter.

I have seen cases on these boards where people actually leave the boards for periods of time because of the negativity. I have also seen great compassion shown on these boards for people in need to the point that I have actually had to choke back emotions while reading these posts.

My question I guess is: If one spends too much time DISing is it possible to become numb and lose some of the magic to the point where you decide you need a break from the Boards. And for those that maybe answer "yes" to this question and have returned: How did you rejuvenate the magic? Do you forget about the negativity when you are on vacation at Disney, and does your vacation help you find the magic again even without EE Mornings, refillable mugs, and shorter park hours...etc etc..?

Just wondering?

Have a Disney Day!!

I try not to let the negativity get to me. Most of the time it doesn't, but when it does I just walk away for a couple of days and then come back. For me, the positives on the DIS outweight the negatives, so it helps keep the magic alive for me. Plus, I'm the type that doen't NEED EE, etc, to have a great time at Disney :D

And THAT is why I don't spend as much time here!

short answer; I guess it could....but one would have to let it make them feel that way.

Isn't it kinder like standing on a street connor and asking everyone who passes by their opionion on sump'in? I mean, some people are jurst plain negative, sum will be a a bad mood at the moment they answer, others will give a thoughtful well balanced response, others will reach out and go above and beyond to help answer yer question.

I think I dew knoe what yer mean....but the "power" of any disimbodied negative think'in user...could never sour my appreciation of,nor the power of the Disney Magic...and all the wonderful experiences that has given me.

The magic always inflates my heart once I walk under the train station and start to see the faces of people shining like the stars in the heavens! :)

In a lot of ways, I think the answer is that it is quite the opposite. The people on these boards, for the most part, have experienced and love the magic of Disney and continue to love the magic of Disney. That is why any minor glitch or disappointment is so obvious and hurts so much, especially when one considers that most people are not lucky enough to experience Disney multiple times or regularly and therefore may not know that things are better than their experience. Many times people who love you the most are also the most critical. Disney is no different.

With 42,221 members, you're bound to encounter some negativity John. Maybe a few of them were just having an "off" day.

Do you forget about the negativity when you are on vacation at Disney, and does your vacation help you find the magic again even without EE Mornings, refillable mugs, and shorter park hours...etc etc..?

Thankfully I've never lost the feeling of "magic", and by the time I get home, my face hurts from smiling!! :) :) :) :)

The DIS has helped me to make some wonderful, very tight friendships and, because of the DIS, I once again have the love of a wonderful man in my life. I worry about people who are sad or going through something really tough, I pray for those in need, I think about something funny someone has posted, I try a new product someone recommends, etc., but other than that, the DIS doesn't make a difference in my Disney or life experiences any more than my friends or family outside of the DIS do. :)

Goofyposter, I LOVE your comment about the magic inflating your heart as you walk in. It is so true for many of us.
I don't think I could let any DIS member take away how I feel about DisneyWorld, especially the Magic Kingdom.:D

I read everything with a jaunticed eye. I figure that everyone can't have a magical experience all the time. It's impossible.

Some complaints are valid, real problems. Some are merely expectations that cannot be met by any set of human beings in this lifetime.

Disney, like everywhere else, has its pitfalls. I read about them in order to try to avoid them. Does it diminish the magic? Only if you believe that every minute of every vacation, every experience with every CM, every meal at every restaurant should be perfect.

We live in an imperfect world.

Good question John. With me, I tend to just ignore those that like to complain both here on the DIS and in real life. I don't like to let anyone take away my dreams and my feelings of happiness. Disney gives me a great feeling of happiness even though I haven't been there since Jan. 2000 and have no plans for a trip in the future. On a day that I need a pick me up I just think about our last trip, and it brings a smile to my face. I hope that you don't let the complainers get to you. Lucky you, getting to plan a trip! Have fun doing it!

Wonderfully said. You make your own magic, it comes from within. Don't let a "negative thinker" sour it. They are everywhere in life. I actually have more negativity about WDW from people in my RL, who don't understand.

Everyone has a different outlook on life. Just because one opinion is negative doesn't mean it will be that way for me. So, over a period of time, you know which threads not to open, because it just doesn't matter to you.

Your own magic comes from your own experiences, not someone elses. Like was said, when you are there, you aren't remembering a negative thread...you're creating your own wonderful, magical memory.

I hope this doesn't offend anyone...but...

The "magic" I feel when I am at Disney World has absolutely NOTHING to do with the people on this message board! I kind of find it hard to even see a connection.

I have gathered very valuable information from the people here, but as for my family's and my experience while at WDW, that is something totally separate.

I do know what you mean though about the people who complain about every little change at WDW, but I don't take their complaints personally or allow their negative attitude to effect me. Why would I???

I hope you have a wonderful time on your next trip, John! :)

or get on a board here and answer someones questions......I love to see where they are staying ..where they are going to eat....and what rides are their favorites.....I just get so up ....now we are planning our next trip in 78 days....we want to experience the xmas decorations and the lights and just the whole atmosphere.....we have some great chats that give us some great info on different resorts.....restaurants and fun fun fun.....please come we would love to have you ......

I guess it depends on perspective.

Personally, I like to read the bad with the good; forewarned is forearmed, if you know what I mean.

Reading the trip planning boards really drives my desire to return to Disney again and again, even when I come across negative threads. There is an enthusiasm for vacationing at WDW here on the DIS that is contagious.

Isn't that the truth! Maybe if I wasn't on the DIS every day we might chose another vacation destination!

I think some people come to these boards, see all the wonderful sprinkled with pixie dust trip reports and think they will have the same experience.

For some that is true, for others, if it doesn't go exactly as planned, or if they don't get the same upgrade they've read about or a P.S. at Cindy's they post negatively about it.

I don't think coming here to the DIS on a regular basis tarnishes anything for me. It makes me want to go back all the more, negative posts and all!

Good question, JºoºhnG. I try to overlook the negative WDW stuff. I won't let anyone take my magic away.:)

CRB#33....."You make your own magic. It comes from within".

BINGO!!!! The Disney magic that we all love... we experience and then it lives in our hearts. I think that is the difference between us "Disney fanatics" and those who say, "You're going there AGAIN??" I think it takes a positive, fun loving, "mind open to the magic" kind of person to be able to see it at all, but when you do "have it" , it will NEVER go away...no matter what. :)

I'm gettin' all excited just talking about it :bounce: :bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

I love these boards for the incredible amount of information on them, positive and negative. I believe they really help to make our vacations better. I never would have known about an Illuminations cruise never mind actually book one without the DIS. Everyone has their own opinion and to me Disney will always be magical.
