DIS article: Visiting Disney World With a Disability Post DAS

Sun and heat sensitivity are such a tricky one. I don’t quite understand the logistics of getting around an expansive park in the sun and heat but then not being accommodated by a fan and umbrella once you get to the line. Maybe I need to reflect more and learn more about the disability, or maybe those are the people DAS was trying to weed out. I’m not sure.
Yes, that is a tough one in FL where it is often sunny. I have sun sensitivity (not as bad as others) so have to lather on sunscreen multiple times a day. Even with I may end up burned with rashes, so might need to wear a rash guard. I can’t really figure out how being in the park walking around is different than being in a line? I get you can find shade outside, but you can’t avoid the sun walking around or waiting for things. I be mine they will also allow umbrellas, hats, etc, in lines to help as well.

I had a medication-induced sun sensitivity for about a year and sun in my eyes is still a migraine trigger, so I can speak to my experiences.

You learn really fast how to get around with minimal sun exposure, and it's vastly easier to avoid the sun in the park than it is in a queue. In a park I can cross to the other side of the street, cut through shops or take the long way around. We also planned our park touring to account for the sun angles. On the other hand, most queues weren't a huge issue (they were generally either indoors or majority shielded) and I didn't find that alternate entrances were super helpful for avoiding standing in the sun (they were similar in sun exposure to the main line). Some rides were a problem due to being in the sun, but there's not much a DAS is going to do about that!

Edit: There are a few queues where DAS would be super helpful to avoid the sun, like SDD, but that wasn't a ride that fit our interests then.
