DS16 has a Christmas party with his scout troop on Sunday afternoon. They do a dirty Santa exchange as part of this every year. I am completely out of ideas - it has to be around $10 and should be loosely related to scouting.

It's a pretty good bet that there will be several multi-tools / mess kits / flashlights / dry boxes / poker sets (it's a thing with this troop, they love their poker) already so I like to do something different. No weapons, big knives allowed, and someone else has already done the freezing $10 worth of change in a block of ice.

Help!!!!!

How about a collection of gift cards with small amounts on them? Like 50 cents or less.

Maybe explain "Dirty Santa"?

My only encounter with anything that sounds like that involved being embarrassed when the nephew passing out gifts on Xmas morning accidentally handed me the box meant for my sister's boyfriend.

... But I'm pretty sure that isn't the sort of thing you meant, LOL.

You could do freeze-dried meals, like Mountain House (the lasagna is good and my son said the mac and cheese is good as well). I have seen these for a good price at Sierra, but they also sell them at Walmart.

Other options could be things like paracord bracelets, a knot-tying kit, a basic first aid kit, or a small-scale, packable card game (check out the Camp Game Booster Pack on Amazon for $8.95. The cards are the best part...you don't need the game, which isn't that great. You can use the cards on their own, like Trivia cards.)

Too funny, nothing that exciting with this bunch.

They all pick numbers. Person #1 chooses a gift and opens it. Person #2 has the option of stealing person #1's gift or picking one to open. Person #3 has the option of stealing one of the 2 already open gifts or opening another one, etc, etc. If someone's gift is stolen, they can either steal or pick another one to open. Obviously, the person with the highest number gets the best choice. Once a gift has been stolen twice, it's frozen and can't be stolen again.

so its a white elephant .. i dont like the term dirty santa sounds Rated R lol

Well....... it is a bunch of teenaged boys. They'd probably prefer it to be rated R.

White elephant to me is the exchange where you grab the hideous painting your cousin gave you for your wedding and wrap it up to give away. I"ve been to a few of those that definitely should have been rated M for mature. Or maybe not, depending on who did or didn't understand the rules.:rolleyes1

He’s 16. Why isn’t he choosing his own gift?

Because he has no money, can't drive, and would rather just hand someone a $10 than wrap a present.

Thanks everyone, these are all good ideas, especially the socks, those things are $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and I swear if the dryer is going to eat a sock, it will be a scout sock every time.

I really like the portable phone charger idea, I think I'll probably go with that.
