Dirty Rooms at GF?

We're booked to stay at the GF in August and I just want to find out if anyone has had any problems with their room (especially bathroom) not being clean when they first arrive.

We had this problem last year at the Poly and from what I've been reading at these boards this is a recurring problem there, which is why we decided to go with the GF this year. I just want to prepare myself if this is the same situation at the GF.

I have only stayed at the GF once & it was fairly new then so everything was clean as were the rooms but then again I was in my mid-teens so what did I know!

And yes I have been fortunate enough to walk into my room at the Poly with my then 15 month old in August 2002 after a long day of flying & I just wanted to pee in private.

What did I see-someone else's pee, someone elses dirty towels & just a horrible site to see!

Needless to say we got our room moved & we got a free fridge for the week (you had to pay then).

And when we stayed there in 2005 we had a lovely Palmetto bug (aka roach) in the closet. I am so thrilled my dh saw it & disposed of it before I did.

We are staying at the Poly again this August so I hope it is better otherwise I may have to resort to staying at the CR the next time as I didn't fit in with the GF.

I've stayed at the GF twice ('05, and just last month), and we've had great, clean rooms. I can't say the same for other deluxe resorts (Poly, YC...), but I haven't had any problems with the GF!

For what it's worth, the GF just refurbed all its rooms, so the carpet, soft goods, etc. is all brand new.

As for the Palmetto bugs, hey, it's Florida. They don't know they're not accepted at the WDW resorts.

I don't want to jinx us , but we've stayed at the GF 12 times and we've always had a very clean room! Hope you enjoy the GF as much as we do!

We have stayed at the GF 5 times and will do so again this April and have never had a problem. We can't wait to see the refurb rooms. Heck we can't wait to be back home again.

i have only stayed at GF once and our room really wasn't that clean. the bathroom was thank goodness or i would have moved but we were missing things and the carpet was dirty and trash under the beds. they had rushed to clean our room (i think that someone forgot) as we checked in in the early morning and didn't get into our room until around 9pm.

they made it up to us by giving me half off the night's rate which was a savings of about $250-$300 and sent us chocolates another night.

that being said....hopefully it was just an isolated incident...i would definitely try them again.

We have just returned from GF (about 2 weeks ago) and our room was spotless. When we checked in I asked if we would be in a renovated room and we were told that it wasn't updated when the other rooms were but when we walked in it looked renovated to us - it even had that new room smell! Our room was sparkly clean when we checked in and it was thoroughly cleaned every day while we were out. The only maintance issue we had was that three of the lights in our room were missing their bulbs (weird I know!) but after we called, maintenance came up immediately and put the bulbs in for us! I will also add that we stayed at the CR and at the Poly and while we felt that the Poly and GF were the cleanest we didn't really have any problems with the rooms or bathrooms being unclean - and I'm a bit of a fanatic. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

My only concern was in Gasperilla Grill and Games (the quick service restaurant), birds frequently flew into the restaurant and no one batted an eye. It happened everytime we were in there over our three-night stay and that just doesn't seem sanitary to me.

Oh That freaks me out everytime we are in there. You are right it's not sanitary. I try not to go in there and let my DH and DS go in.

Both our stays were great. SUPER CLEAN rooms!! Mousekeeping was always right on the mark! Always left 2 dollars for a tip too....

We won't even sit in there to eat- we take it back to the room.

We encountered some rather aggressive ducks right outside by the outdoor seating, and I don't want to deal with those, either, so when we have the munchies or want a quick meal, it's always to go.

It's the only gripe I have with the GF.

We don't eat in there either. Haven't ran into the aggressive ducks yet but I can see that happening especially when there is food around.
