I remember reading a book in highschool that was my dad's. I found it on the top shelf of his books (he had hundreds) kind of hidden. I noticed there was some crusty stuff on it, but didn't think too much about it. When I told him I was reading it, he said, "Oh, I thought we threw that out after your sister puked all over it." Needless to say I never finished the book.
As for other used books, I've no aversion to them, but I definitely check them out for crusties before I buy them! I have an old "Alice in Wonderland" book, not sure which edition but it is very old that my sister (same one of the puke glory) got for me as a graduation gift from highschool. It is beautiful! And no crusties at all!
