Directv? Anyone have this?

i like Direct TV better than the cable service in my area.
we do lose service just about everytime there is a thunderstorm.

it was cheaper.

I have Dishnetwork and I got them because of the crappy customer service that Time Warner has. They ticked me off one too many times and I ditched them and never looked back.

Nothing is as great as having reception issues, and being able to call them (DirectTV or Dishnetwork) and while you're talking to them, having it fixed right before your eyes!

Like others have said, you will lose reception during heavy storms, which can be a little disconcerting if you're worried, but other than that, it's great. Especially now that they have DVR's! :thumbsup2

Had both. Currently have DirecTV.

Without question, DirecTV is much cheaper - I'd say 30%+ for comparable channel lineups.

My only disappointments with DirecTV over cable:

1) our whole house is wired for cable. Every room. If we had cable, the same cost would get the cable signal in every jack. As long as your TV is cable ready - you've got cable (except premium - which you need the "box" for). With DirecTV - you need a box to get ANY channels. THey charge you $5 a month per box. So, if you have 4 bedrooms, family room, kitchen, office - that's $35 a month EXTRA that you'd pay over cable. I think this is kind of smarmy.

2) Internet Access. We had cable - loved it. Fast, reliable. With DirecTV, you need to be able to get DSL (the satellite internet is VERY expensive and not as quick/reliable). DSL is great, but unless you have the new fiber optic lines and can get 8 MPS acess, regular DSL is only MAX 3 (I think) or more likely less than that, depending on how far you are. You might not think there's that much of a difference, but let me tell you, there are times when I'd give up the $50-60 a month savings just to have my Cable internet back.

Hate DTV. Everytime it rained it went out sometimes for the entire time it stormed (some storms around here last all day or night) There was a problem with the connection on the satilite on on the roof of our house called them and they charged us $80 and didn't fix the problem. We told them we weren't happy with thier service to turn it off and we were going back to cable. They didn't turn it off till the next month so they billed us for the month we had not used. I finally paid the extra month. (Cause I was tired of fighting with them.) 6 months later I get the same bill in again. 6 months later I paid it again (cause I was tired of fighting with them.) This was 6 years ago I just got another bill in at my mother's house and I found out last week when we were refinancing at the bank that it is now on my credit report!!!!! :furious:
