Does anyone know how far it is from Croydon to St Pancras??

We are debating where to stay the night before we leave to go to DLP....

We live in Bournemouth and it will be over 2 & half hour drive from here to St Pancras and we dont want to be tierd on the 1st day in the park. :worried:
We are also trying to find the cheapest option!

So here are our Options:

1) Drive up in our car, Stay 1 night in Hotel (But will have to Pay carparking for 1 week at St Pancras and 1 night hotel )

2) Get a taxi up from Bournemouth to St Pancras and same on way back

3) Drive up to Croydon the night before and stay with friends (but not sure how far it is from Croydon - St Pancras

(I cant think of anymore options, if anyone has any ideas i would be grateful, we want to sleep near St Pancras the night before to avoid being tierd 1st day in park, we dont mind coming straight back home the on way back)

Hello!

I live in Surrey and I will be travelling from croydon to St Pancras next month when I go to DLRP. (And have done in the past, many tiems for shopping trips etc.)

We get the train from East Croydon loads (it's the main croydon station, near the shopping centre)

There's actually a train that goes from brighton to bedford that stops at east croydon and then again at kings cross (which is st pancras really). But I always feel its pretty slow.

We tend to get a fast train to london bridge or victoria (about 15-20 mins) and then get the tube (about another 10-15 mins) so its not long at all as long as all your connections are ok!!

What time is your st pancras train?

Ours is the disney direct (8.45 ish) and we are getting a train that morning. Aiming to leave East Croydon about 7/7.30 so we have plenty of time.

The Eurostar leaves St Pancras at 8:53am, i would like to get there a little before 8am.... How long does it take to drive from Croydon - St Pancras??
Not sure how much taxis would be? But might be cheaper than paying 5 days parkng fees at St Pancras and 1 night hotel...

Hiya

It all usually comes down to amount of stress V budget when I'm organising stuff!

If getting an early train then for my peace of mind I'd want to be near the station the night before.

The only other option I could think of was National Express.

I'd be tempted to stay with friends (as long as they're okay with car-babysitting for the week) and get a taxi if budget is an issue.

If it isn't then I'd go with the drive own car/St Panc hotel/parking option. At least on the way back home you know all you have to do is jump in the car.

Sorry, I'm no help!!

Can you not get your friends to drop you at East Croydon station adn the you get the train?

It wil be sooooo much quicker, and a lot less risk of delays.

And waaaaay cheaper than a taxi!!!

Thank you sooooooooooo much for your help Demonica and Torsie24 :thumbsup2

The original plan was Drive/Hotel/park at St Pancras BUT it is going to cost near to £200 :scared1: which could be money well spent at DLP....

So i might have a word with Friends in Croydon and ask if they would mind us staying the night before and car sitting...

Does anyone know roughly how much it would cost:

a) Taxi from Croydon - St Pancras?
b) Train from Croydon - St - Pancras?

Thank you so much you are very kind

No clue on taxi. Might be worth looking online and calling some local firms, but I HATE croydon traffic, and HATE HATE london traffic, lol. Hence why I will only ever go by train.

An adult travel card is about £7, and I think you get a child one free or for very little, when you buy one. Croydon is zone 5, so the tfl website might b able to help you wiht exact prices...

On Trainline Croydon East - St Pancras midweek was about £5 per adult single ticket departing at 7:00 arriving 7:30.

Don't hold me to that though, just an estimate.

For taxis you might want to call a local firm as they're bound to give you a rough idea.

wow train prices sound really good :thumbsup2 sorry for being clueless but is it a train or underground also is it direct or do we have to swap

3) Drive up to Croydon the night before and stay with friends (but not sure how far it is from Croydon - St Pancras

There are a couple of fast trains per hour from East Croydon to St Pancras and the journey's about 40 mins. It will stop at a few stations (London Bridge, Tulse Hill, Blackfriars, City Thameslink, Farringdon, then St Pancras International) but that's the quickest route. We live in Croydon, so I have the timetable here with me lol as hubby takes the train into work everyday. There are more trains per hour going into Victoria, then catching the underground, but with luggage, 2 kids (and one buggy), we found catching the train direct from EC to SP more convenient as we didn't have to change trains.

Once you get off at St Pancras, it's only about a 10-minute walk to get to the Eurostar bit.

I would drive up to Croydon the night before and stay with friends. Wld save you having to leave Bournemouth really really early that morning.

Don't know how much taxis cost to St Pancras as we always take the train into London. Much quicker! We wanted to buy an open return ticket but for some reason, the guy at the counter said we couldn't?!! So we bought a single both ways. Can't remember how much now?! We also had to get a ticket for my DD - bought a travelcard for £1 (she's over 5).

HTH.

Edited to say: In April, a single from EC to SP was £4.10.

Thank you sooooo much for that detailed information, really kind of you

I phoned friends and have decided to drive from Bournemouth - Croydon the day before and sleep the night at friends, i can keep my car on their drive and they will drop us off at EC Station.... :thumbsup2
This is the easiest and cheapest option  also means we can get some sleep and wont be too tierd on the 1st day in the Disney Park.
We shall sleep 1 night when we return as the Eurostar arrives at St Pancras at 9:15pm.

If the Eurostar departs at 8:50am what time train do you think we should take from East Croydon Station??? I would like to be in St-Pancras by 8am which allows 50mins check in etc....

Also on the way back what time train should we book to return from St Pancras to East Croydon if Euro star arrives at 9:15pm.

Also where can i book our train tickets in advance??? is there a phone number to call or somewhere online so we can pay and they post our train tickets??

Many many thanks to all of you for your kind help

Looking at the timetable (this could very well change by the time you travel) - there's a train at 7.02 which gets you to SP at 7.32 (this one doesn't stop at Tulse Hill). Then there's another one at 7.24 which gets you in at 8.02.

I would personally get the 7.02 one in case of delays and also, I always like to get there in plenty of time anyway.

Come nearer the time, do check National Rail's website or call them on 08457 48 49 50 for further info.

Don't know about booking/paying for tickets in advance for such short trips - you can't reserve seats anyway (you'll be lucky to get a seat during rush hour lol) - but I'm sure you can do it ?!:confused3 DH got our tickets on his way back from work on the Friday before we left (Sunday). Perhaps you could ask your friend to do the same? You could always get the tickets on the morning itself (either from ticket machine or counter) but there might be queues.

I'm going to get a train at about 7am from Purley, which is about 7 mins from EC.

That will get me to St P in plenty of time.

There are loads of ticket machines at croydon. And it's only a little journey, completely unnecessary to get tickets in advance. You'll be fine!!
