How far is it from MCO to Universal?? We land on a Thurs morning at 9:30 am. When do you think we would arrive at Universal?? Does anyone have directions?? Is one way better than another ( any roads to avoid)?? We are staying at HRH , Getting very excited little less than a month to go :cool1:

From Orlando International Airport:

1) Take SR-528 West 11 miles to I-4 East
2) Take I-4 East 2 miles to exit 75A
3) Follow the signs to Universal Orlando's main parking garage or to one of the three (3) resort hotels

528 is a toll road so I would have some change handy. It wont take long to get to Universal once you're out of the airport.

Alternatively you could take Sand Lake road to Universal Blvd and turn right. This way you dodge the annoying tolls. We usually go this way especially if we want to stop at Walmart (which is at the Sand Lake Rd/John De young intersection).

The problem with SLR is the constant stop and go traffic. I've never seen it clear or relatively fast to drive and I travel it quite often. John Young is another headache but that's a different story. If you're in a hurry...do not take Sand Lake Road...just pay the tolls and be done with it.

Having looked at the route on Google maps, just wondering if I'd be able to turn onto Universal Blvd from the 528 instead of going onto I4?

I don't like driving on I4 at the best of times, let alone after a 9 hour flight and having to get used to drive on the 'wrong side of the road' ;)

If you take 528 to McCoy Road (exit 8) to Sand Lake Road to Kirkman Road you wouldn't have to get on I-4...you'd go over it. Then it's a short drive to Universal. But...there's usually a lot of traffic on Sand Lake Road and Kirkman so just be aware.

Thanks, that uses the '428' doesn't it? Just checking it out now.
Will be up and down I4 like a pro soon enough, but not on the first day!! :lmao:

In the case of a Brit driving in the US on their first day a lot of traffic isn't necessarily a bad thing. There are plenty of taillights to follow so you are sure you're on the correct side of the road.

:lmao: thats an excellent point, always takes me the journey from the airport to the hotel to get used to automatic transmissions, side of the road and the different rules of the road :lmao:
