Presently have direct tv. I see dish network has a pretty good deal on equip including "tivo".
Anyone have thoughts of why one is better than the other - or if it is?
THanks.

I have no input on Dish, but have had DirecTV for quite a few years, just added the TiVo, think it is great. The TiVo box was $99, split into 3 $33 payments, service is only $4.99 a month. I think now there is even a $50 rebate going on.

A friend of mine and my brother both have Dish Network. I've never heard them say anything negative about it. We have Directv w/Tivo. Anything you can get with Tivo would be worth it, IMO.

I have Dish with Tivo and I like it better than Direct TV because of no contract. And the Tivo was free. I have used it (tivo) a few times, but I don't use it enough to see the value of buying one. But so many people swear by them, so what do I know? I am actually disconnecting Dish on Wednesday because Comcast is serving our condos finally and we aren't supposed to have dishes on our roofs. I don't know whether I will get Tivo again or not.

I had Direct TV and now I have Dish. We originally left Direct TV due to their lack of local channels. I couldn't get NBC, ABC, CBS or FOX. And I live in an area where an antenna doesn't work and we get no cable. So we switched. I think Direct TV has since gotten them.

Looking at both, I like Dish better. My satellite hard drive can record 2 shows, while I watch a 3rd recorded show at the same time. Direct could only give you 2 stations at one time. I have the ability to record many more hours w/ Dish, like 50 more hours or something. So that is convenient seeing as it took me all summer to catch up on the finales of all my favorite shows from last year. I get so behind w/ 2 kids and Dish affords me the capability of seeing all my shows, even if it is months later.

With Dish I can also rewind back 2 hours, AND record the past 2 hours. Direct TV would allow me to rewind, but not record as well. Or I could record, but not rewind. It was one or the other. If I wanted my DH to see the past info, I was out of luck. Now I hear a pertinent piece of info, rewind back, and record for him for later.

We did get the more expensive Dish Satellite to get all these great benefits though. I doubt the standard Dish will have all these. That's about all I can think of now. Hope this answers some of your questions.

We've been with the Dish Network exclusively since 1998. We've never had a problem with the reception or customer service.

THanks all. It looks like Dish will be more expensive monthly.... Have to get two rooms to get the tivo free and then pay for that.... Not as many channels as directv either.
I don' t get local channels yet either. Directv keeps saying 'they're coming' but not so far :( I do have an antenae and can get ABC.

I will have to give it some more though. Don' t suppose directv would give me a 'free upgrade'????

I to have had comcast digital, direct tv and Dish....I have to say Dish by far. I like the way there channels are set up much better. I did have a "better" channel seletion on some of the channels that I like. and I had the "tivo" or DVR player for free, it taped for 111 hours. I am now in a apt with no way to have Dish....or I would in a New-york min!! I hate cable or digital as they call it. I never had any problems with getting the shows in during "bad" wheather....boy do I miss my Dish!:(

I miss my Dish! We had to switch a couple months ago to Directv and it's ok, but I prefer Dish. The only reason we switched is that Dish could no longer give us local channels (we got them for many years but due to some ruling they couldn't provide them anymore). Directv has locals but fewer channels in all, if you ask me ( or I guess fewer than I'm interested in0 and is more expensive than Dish was. Also, we used to pay for our basic service yearly for Dish and they gave us one month free for doing that.Directv doesn't do that.Good luck!

We've had Direct TV for 3 years with no problems. I'd never go back to Cablevision!
