Direct purchase question...

You could use them all at 7 months and book where ever there were openings but not at 11 months. That is the home resort priority window and points follow that. Consider that if they didn't everyone would just buy 25 of the resort they'd like most and the remainder at the lowest cost resort.

So continuing this scenario I could only use the 50 points from the home resort to book at the 11 month window, not my entire allotment of 150 combined points?

Regarding purchasing points directly, when I go to the website the minimum option it gives is 100 points (and that's only for Poly and Hawaii, not any of the older ones). I understand the older ones may be 'sold out', but is it possible to purchase less than 100 points? Would you need to call and speak to someone directly?

That is correct. You could use all 150 at the 7 month window if there is still availability, but that doesn't accomplish what you are looking for.

I've been told the minimum direct contract is 50 pts unless you are already a member and want to add on and then it would be 25. You may have to call and speak to someone.

Getting back to TIW - keep in mind that the increased price means that a cardholder must spend $750 while the card is valid before seeing any savings. While I have found TIW to be a great perk, we may not be renewing as there are usually only 2-3 adults at our meals. It is becoming harder for us to justify purchasing TIW for our small group.

They normally try to sell you 100+ points when you do the tour but if you ask and insist 100points is totally out of your budget or you just want to "test the water" and see if it works for you. They will let you buy from 50+ points.
