Direct purchase perks, I thought I wouldn't care much but..

I thought I wouldn't care too much about direct purchase perks. But now after my 3rd DVC stay I am hooked.

There's something about going to the nice cool lounge for free soda and using the clean, cool, empty, pleasant smelling bathroom that has me not regretting my choice at all. I have not been able to experience direct perks at WDW yet, only DL and Aulani.

I will admit the free merch when you go so often builds up and becomes redundant.. I now own 8 DVC hats. But on my recent trip I scored the bamboo Mickey coasters!! As I was walking away with mine I passed a guy carrying his back to the room and we just looked at each other like yeahhhh IYKYK.

The annual pass or the "stay at future resorts" perks do not appeal to me either but at least I can see how some find value there.

I get it! We felt the same way, no interest in blue card perks…..until we didn’t. When we added direct, we had a trip the following week (on our resale points) but just going into the lounge so soon after our purchase gave us the warm fuzzies. Then we got into our first Moonlight Magic event, went to the Moana 2 screening and purchased Sorcerer Passes, love it all.

I, too, remember being optimistic about scoring a MM reservation. Make sure you have four different computers trying to get into the queue, it’s the DVC way.

I did get tickets for DL but we ended moving that same day and missed it. I do know DL is much easer to get than WDW though.

At Aulani we got beige hats for listening about interval and a backpack at the DVC desk. At VDH we got blue hats just by stopping in the DVC center and asking if they had goodies, the 2nd time we didnt even ask he just gave them to us with a backpack and my coasters were in there too! ohhhh yeah I also have gotten 2 very cool drawstring backpacks!

I got a free postcard last time I was at WDW, but I don’t remember if that was for being AP or DVC. It ended up being a marketing tool for Mufasa and it was like cashing a check at the grocery store with all the ID we had to provide and sign papers for it.

No free dvc merch at vb or hhi. (Never been to aulani)
We did get this stuff on our first dlr trip last summer with a cool coin!
We have scored a few prints and sliders at wdw.
We are a combo or direct and resale.

The goodies are definitely much better at Aulani and DL than WDW. We were just chatting at the VGC DVC office last time not looking for anything and the guy encouraged us to make sure to always ask what freebies the have. We got the bag or backpack (can't remember what came from where) with the coasters, lanyards, and stickers, VGC and I think VDH prints, VDH tinkerbell pins. We got blue DVC and white VDH hats at Golden Vine.

Oh and make sure to do a tour of the Aulani room next to VDH...that comes with a free Dole whip from the Tiki Bar.

You also get a lot on a cruise, something different every day. Got the same drawstring backpack, but also a pop socket, chapstick, lanyard, tattoos, pins, etc. None of this required being direct, though, got almost all of this before my direct purchase with no issues.
