We are in the market to purchase some new furniture for our home...bedrooms, living room and some apppliances. Am wondering if anyone has had any experiences with this "club" and if it is indeed a value..what did it cost you to join?
Thank you.

Run away as fast as you can! Do a search of this forum for "Direct Buy" and you'll read some real horror stories.

My aunt got into this a she regrets it everyday...i wanna say they paid like $3000 to join...She is not happy with it at all. They have been remodeling their entire house and i think they only bought the couchs thru direct buy and she didnt really save much at all on them.

I have heard good and bad things, and we ultimately decided that we're just not going to be spending enough to make it worthwhile.

The people I know who have good things to say spent big bucks there, and put the breakeven point around 30-35K (and keep in mind, that is materials/furnishings only, not labor - I think a lot of people go in thinking about the savings in relation to their total budget, not just the materials cost). That's not a hard number to hit if you're building a house, as our friends were, but it isn't a deal for the typical remodel or redecorating project as the commercials make it out to be.

I know we're not going to be spending anywhere near that much on materials, appliances, and furniture, and I am far to particular about my ideas to buy into something without seeing exactly what they have to offer first. I dragged DH to 4 tile showrooms before I found the mosaics for my half-bath! So we decided it wasn't for us.

We were members, and if only we had put that $2500 in any interest bearing or investment account. (then $150 per year to maintain membership)

We bought beds and.... um..... a couple more beds.

The problem is that you're technically not supposed to shop at stores, because that's violating their policy of using other store's help when you have no intention of purchasing from them. Unfortunately, they don't have samples of everything (they couldn't possibly), so how can you buy a couch or bed without sitting /lying on it? You can't be sure of the colors / fabric feel / etc. until you have it at home - no returns.

If you follow their rules, I can't imagine how you'd be able to buy enough to justify the cost. Hindsight is 20 - 20. Sigh.
