I have a few questions about the possibility of adding on to my Bay Lake Tower membership.

Is there a minimum number of points required to add on?

What is the price per point?

Are there any incentives or discounts for existing DVC members, Disney Annual Pass Holders, Disney Visa?

If purchased, how soon would points be available for use?

Any additional information and advice is appreciated and welcome.

If you use the Add on tool in your membership and scroll down, you'll see it. Oddly, you can't use the add on tool for it. It's $275. per point - one of the most expensive ones. You can add on as small as 25 points. Since it's a sold out resort, you might have to buy whatever they have (might not be able to choose how many points you want).

Afaik, there aren't any incentives at all for sold out resorts. They offer special financing for members, as low as 8.99% if you have been a member for a year, haven't been late on payments with them and do auto pay from your bank account. You'll have the points immediately following your purchase.

Current owners the minimum is 25 points to add on at BLT.
Price is $275 PP.
Only ‘discount’ is if you use a Disney Visa you get 1-2% back (depending on the type of card you have) and 6 months to pay…or whatever any other ‘cash back’ type card is offering.
Points are available within an hour - most times within 15 minutes.

I don’t see a lot offered with my use year.

I am interested in any thoughts on resale though.

Resale is significantly cheaper than direct typically running around 130 a point. I would encourage you to pursue resale over direct for BLT.

I like direct a lot but it's hard to overcome the 145 dollar differential per point. Especially if you're wanting to use the points primarily at BLT.

If you are planning to use your points primarily at BLT or any of the older resorts (so not Riviera, Cabins at Fort Wilderness, Disneyland Hotel), I would 100% buy resale BLT over direct. The savings is just too insurmountable to argue any other way, especially given you have your direct member benefits and hold some unrestricted points already.

How many points are you thinking about adding on? What use year? I get the challenges with use year, so I suppose if you were considering a very small add on, you could minimize the cost premium compared to buying a larger number of points, but even then, I'd be inclined to hold out and wait.

We most often stay at BLT and book right at 11 months, but have and will continue to stay at other DVC resorts. We love BLT but also do enjoy trying different resorts from time to time booking at 7 months or last minute trips.

We have a February use year. I was thinking of adding on a small amount 25-50 points, not more than 70. Of course we don’t really “need” any more points 😂
I just occasionally feel like we’re short a few points at the 11th month booking and have to drop a night or hope I can find a member willing to transfer some points.
If we can buy what we want direct, we could use them much sooner.
I don’t know how long it will take trying to find a resale contract that we want and then going through that process.

February is the most available UY resale. In fact, the breakdown of current BLT listings I see as of the time of this writing:

Feb - 39!!!
Mar - 5
Apr - ZERO
Jun - 14
Aug - 6
Sep - 16
Oct - 5
Dec - 9

Purchasing resale BLT is a slam dunk. Don't purchase another resort given your use case.

I've been doing a lot of looking at BLT resale contracts this past week. I can't tell you how much I wish I had a Feb UY for BLT resale shopping (I have Oct UY). Granted, there aren't a lot of 25 or 50 point contracts currently on the resale market, but there is so much more inventory than Oct UY, and I see some contracts with really good list prices. Just pulled up dvc for less website. There is a 160 point contract with a $125 list price that has been on the market 60 days - I'd be going in with a $115 offer, hoping to settle at $120, and walking away with spring in my step! Yeah, that's more points than what it sounds like you're looking for, but seems to me you could easily rent those out to recoup the extra costs on the resale contract. Trying to do some quick math - 50 points direct at $275 pp is $13,750. Let's say you get that 160 point contract for $120, or a cost of $19,200 (but you really only need 50 of those points). That leaves you with 110 points to rent out - wouldn't take a terribly long time to recoup the increased costs on that contract. Just some food for thought.

It is unless you want a small contract and those are very hard to find.

Sure, you can go with a larger resale one but then you have more yearly dues.

You can get twice as many resale points at BLT than direct. So even though you want 25-50 points you can look for 50-100 points and spend less/the same.
True, but it does come with more dues…so 25 direct is not easy to find…. UY go up to 50 or more, than resale makes sense at those are easier to fin
