DINOSAUR

I prepared my then DD7 for all things dark & loud at Disney (not just dinos). We practiced at home sitting in the pitch dark, discussing how nothing is actually touching us & therefore nothing is hurting us. Then we started adding loud thumping music, then flashing lights. We talked about how everyone who gets on comes off untouched by dinos.

This is great! Maybe you could turn this into a career in Disney attraction fear counseling. My DW would love it if you could get me to go on Splash Mountain with her.

The difference from other smaller parks & Disney is that rides are indoors for the most part & can't be seen or sized up by the rider beforehand. Their scale and scope can only be imagined & sometimes we over conceptualize.

The nice thing about this day and age is that there are a lot of good ride videos available on the internet. I haven't watched on for DINOSAUR!, but it might be too dark to get a feel for the ride. But before DW finally convinced me to go on SDMT in January, I studied the ride videos like I was preparing to steer a bobsled, I memorized every twist, turn and drop so I knew what was coming.

There's a couple parts that the dinosaurs come out at you (it's been a couple years since I've been on it). It's dark and loud. I am taking my 3 kids next week. My youngest is 4 yrs old. I am not sure if he will be scared or not.

There are Dinosaurs on this ride? All I saw was darkness and smoke.

Yes! I can totally see me having you sit in a cut out log, floating in the bathtub, me dipping my fingers in water & flicking into your face, telling you the sensation is like sliding down the slide at the park, and calmly reassuring you the briar patch won't touch you. I finish by telling you everyone who gets on, gets off unscathed and continues with the rest of their day.

VERY bumpy and I have a bad back and find that if I brace my feet and push my back into my seat, it helps for the bouncing around and I don't get hurt. That being said - DINOSAUR is my least favourite ride no because of the jostling or loudness but because I'm a chicken and the carnivores lunging at me scare me - but that's the point right!?!?. The last time (last August) I rode it - I got ruined, some of the magic of Disney was exposed. There was enough light that I saw the supports and mechanics on one big dino, not fun when you want to "believe". Made it less scary, so that helped this chicken!!!

I got to admit I like it better now than I did before. We went in 2017 and I thought it was fine. I didn't care for it in ... um ... I forget. 2009?

It hasn't changed, I think I just grew to like it.

We're really debating about our DD who will be 5.5 when we go. We were kind of glad it was closed for refurb 2 years ago, so we didn't have to worry about it. Her brother was terrified of it at 6. She's seen the youtube video and wants to try it, but we know that doesn't give you the full effect of how dark, loud and scary it is.

In December of 2015 my youngest son discovered his all time favorite attraction at WDW: Dinosaur. We were at AK near closing one evening that December and we rode Dinosaur non stop for nearly the last hour the park was open. We rode so many times in a row I wasn't sure I was ever going to get him to leave. He was 4 at the time.

you guys are hilarious!

It's kinda rough and shaky but we love it!
it's fun and different, the only thing that I would change is the car to not shake that much... cuz it isn't necessary at all lol
besides that the ride itself is pretty great (in our opinion)
