DINOSAUR Ride - DS5

It really depends on the child. We took DD when she was 5, she was a little scared, but in the end enjoyed the ride.

That question can't be answer by anyone except you and your son. It can be interpreted as an intense ride, but I've seen young kids do well on it. I've seen adults that can't handle it. Why not watch a YouTube video of it and see what you think in terms of your own child? :confused3:confused3

As others have said, it depends on the child. My daughter liked it when she was 3, and we'll be going on again now that she's 4. It is dark and loud, so be mindful of that.

My son loved it at 5. My nephew still talks about how terrifying it was. Totally depends on the kid.

Agree with others that it depends on the child. However, if I were to give a general answer, I would say most 5 year-olds SHOULD be ok with it. All of my kids were nervous and a little scared, but immediately became brave and started to "talk it up" as soon as the ride ended.

If your child is more sensitive or does not enjoy scary things, I would give it another year or two.

My son did it at that age and was scared. I had not been on it in a few years and I forgot how dark and LOUD LOUD LOUD this ride was. It is very "jerky" and dark. At one point a dinosaur roars super loud right in your face. If I were you, I would ride it first to see if you think your child could handle it.

Depends on the kid(s). Some get terrified, some love it.

I find the ride to be much more enjoyable when the kids (or adults) are terrified lol

DH and I were going to take turns riding as I thought DD5 would be a bit scared. She begged to ride it even after the warnings, so we all went. When we were done she asked to ride again so she could try to keep her eyes open!

My 5 year old DD loved it, my friends 5 year old and 8 year old DDs were terrified. My then-43 year old self hated it and won't ride it again.

I agree with everyone else that it will depend on the kid. Just be sure you are completely honest with him/her about what the ride is. I have friends who didn't REALLY explain Space Mountain to their kid and it terrified him. He didn't trust them the rest of the trip and would not ride a lot of fun rides because he wasn't sure he could believe them that it wasn't scary.

It's has the feeling of an out of control truck, throwing you all over the place, very dark, and the scary side of dinosaurs. This isn't cuddly on tv dinosaurs..

If you would let your child watch Jurassic park just before bed, then they might be ready for it but probably aren't as these aren't in a screen and coming at the truck, etc.

watch a youtube POV video of it without them before you decide if they should see it also and tell you if interested in riding.

Depends. It didn't really bother my DD at that age but it still kind of scares my almost 13 year old, lol. My now 5 year old went on it last January and he didn't like it!! We haven't gone to AK yet since we've moved here, so I can't say for sure but I don't think he'd mind it now. If he likes dinosaurs and you really want him to try it, explain to him beforehand how the ride is.

I would head to YouTube and watch one of the recent, post-refurb, high-resolution (4K) ride-through videos. it can be a little intense and a little creepy, even for some adults, though the scariest elements of the ride (where it sounded like you were being chased by the carnotaurus) were taken out years ago when they re-themed the ride to tie it into the 2000 Dinosaur movie. What you won't see in the ride videos is that it's a pretty rough ride, and there are some moments where the roughness takes your breath away in a bad way. If you are familiar at all with the Indiana Jones ride at Disneyland, it's the exact same ride system, but it's much darker inside and in my opinion even rougher.

As others have said, watch a high quality video of it with him. I'm so excited to ride it, but none of my boys are willing to try it after watching the video (4, 5 and 7 years old) even though they love dinosaurs. I made a fastpass for all of us just in case, but they'll probably play in the dinosaur playground or go on the dumbo-like dino ride instead, while the grown ups take turns riding it.

I asked my kids to ride everything once. If they didn't like it then they didn't have to do it again. They liked ToT at 5
